Chapter Ten:
Now that their mothers had come to an understanding, Rowlf and Wanda began to throw themselves into wedding plans. Soon, the wedding was just one week away.
They had arranged to have the minister who would be marrying them come out to the Boarding House for dinner with just their moms and Rowlf’s brothers. Rowlf was shocked when the house seemed relatively quiet and no one was in site the night that the minister was coming.
“I’m so nervous, what if he decides he doesn’t like us?” asked Wanda as she came downstairs in a very simple skirt and top.
“Why would he not like us? We’re very likeable! Everyone loves the Muppets,” said Rowlf.
“Well, I’m not a true Muppet though,” said Wanda.
“Oh trust me, you eat the Swedish Chef’s meals, you don’t even flinch when Gonzo performs wacky stunts, you laugh at Fozzie’s jokes and you know to steer clear of Miss Piggy when she’s in one of her moods. If that doesn’t make you a true Muppet, nothing will,” laughed Rowlf.
“I suppose you’re right,” chuckled Wanda.
“I must say, you’re looking mighty cute in that little skirt,” said Rowlf.
“Rowlf! Not now. Of course, if you’re thinking that way maybe I should change, I don’t want to offend the minister,” said Wanda.
“Don’t worry, you look fine,” said Rowlf.
Just then the doorbell rang.
“That must be Father Marty,” said Rowlf.
“Here goes nothing,” said Wanda.
They opened the door and let Father Marty in and brought him back to the dining room where he was introduced to Rowlf’s brothers. Marie and Felicia were surprisingly getting along very well cooking dinner together in the kitchen.
“Can we get you anything to drink?” asked Wanda.
“I’ll love a glass of water please,” said Father Marty. Wanda left the room to get the water while Rowlf and his brothers made light conversation with the minister. All of a sudden the doorbell rang.
“Now who could that be?” wondered Rowlf as he excused himself to answer the door.
“Surprise! It’s your bachelor party!” exclaimed Clifford and all of the male Muppets camped out on the doorstep.
“Guys, it’s not a good time, Wanda and I were in the middle of something,” said Rowlf.
“Oh come on, you guys will have plenty of time for that stuff after the wedding,” said Rizzo.
“We need to celebrate jou settling down wit just one lady. Dios mio, I could never do that,” said Pepe. They all pushed their way past Rowlf carrying balloons and assorted party type things.
“Sorry Rowlf, they made me keep a secret and they begged me to do it,” said Kermit as he came into the house.
“It’s ok Kermit, but you should know something,” started Rowlf but was interrupted by Animal.
“PARTY! PARTY!” he yelled as he came running into the house.
Rowlf ran back to the dining room but it was already starting to fill up with his friends.
Wanda came back into the dining room with the water.
“What is going on here?” she asked over all of the noise.
“Bachelor party, no ladies allowed,” said Clifford.
“Not by choice though hokay?” said Pepe.
Wanda looked at Rowlf as he helplessly shrugged his shoulders and tried to get over to Father Marty. Suddenly they were interrupted again by the back door bursting open.
“Surprise Wanda! It’s vous’s bachlorette party!” exclaimed Miss Piggy as all of the Muppet women came bursting into the room.
“Hey, no chicks allowed!” exclaimed Rizzo.
“Well, no boys allowed either!” yelled Yolanda.
“Girls, I’m flattered, but can we do this another time?” begged Wanda.
“Why, it looks as if Rowlfie is all tied up at the moment anyway,” said Miss Piggy.
Wanda turned around in horror and sure enough the guys had tied him up and blindfolded him into a chair as a good looking woman was brought into the room.
“A stripper???” yelled Wanda.
“Like relax, we got you one too, he’s not due to arrive for a bit yet,” said Janice.
“Guys, this is not a good time!” exclaimed Wanda. She could see Rowlf protesting as Gonzo, Scooter and Fozzie were trying to hold him down while laughing.
Marie and Felicia burst through the kitchen doors after they heard all of the comotion.
“What’s going on in here?” asked Marie.
“Well meaning friends getting in the way as usual,” said Wanda.
“I’ll take care of this,” said Felicia.
She stood up on a chair and whistled loudly.
Everyone was silent.
“All right, this is very nice of you all, but this is not a good time. These two are meeting with a minister so if you’ll all please just leave,” said Felicia.
“What minister?” asked Gonzo.
“The one right over here,” said Rowlf finally free of his blindfold and then gasping in horror when he realized Father Marty was gone.
“Now look what you’ve all done!!!” screamed Wanda.
“Wow, I’m so sorry guys,” said Clifford.
“Like, we didn’t mean for this to happen,” said Janice.
“All right guys, everyone out, we need to let Rowlf and Wanda find the minister,” said Kermit.
There was more mumblings of sorry and oops.
“So can I get your number? I happen to be a very available king prawn,” said Pepe escorting the female stripper out.
“Uh, Janice?” called Wanda after the group leaving the room.
“Like, I’ll call the male stripper and tell him not to come, don’t worry,” said Janice reading her friend’s mind.
Suddenly it was quiet again.
“What do we do now? I was so afraid something like this would happen!” said Wanda.
“All we can do is try and find him and ask his forgiveness,” said Rowlf.
“He’s a minister, forgiving is in his blood I’m sure,” said Moe. Rowlf and Wanda chuckled a little.
They headed out towards the church in hopes that they would find Father Marty. They saw him in the lobby of the Everybody Eats restaurant.
“There he is!” exclaimed Wanda.
They rushed inside.
“We’re so sorry Father Marty!” exclaimed Rowlf.
“Please marry us, we’re not always like this!” exclaimed Wanda.
“I never said I wouldn’t marry you. I thought I’d come back tomorrow morning and let you kids have your fun tonight. Everyone is entitled to have a little fun you know,” said Father Marty as he gave them a wink.
“So you’ll still marry us?” asked Rowlf.
“Of course! I’ve seen much worse in my day than that. Besides, I’m familiar with your group, I know that stuff like that isn’t all that out of the ordinary,” laughed Father Marty.
“Will you please come back and have dinner with us? We still have plenty of food and our friends are gone for now,” said Wanda.
Father Marty accepted. They headed back to the boarding house and had a lovely dinner. Later in the evening after he had left, Rowlf and Wanda sat down together on the porch swing. As their friends began trickling in they each stopped by to offer more apologies. They didn't tell them that they found Father Marty and that everything worked out fine.
“We’ll have a little fun with them and tell them tomorrow that everything is ok,” said Rowlf.
“Yeah, I kind of want to bask in all of this. Piggy even offered me her spa appointment!” laughed Wanda.
“Can you believe in one week from tonight we’ll finally be husband and wife?” asked Rowlf.
“Wow, you’re right. I can’t wait,” said Wanda.
“Me either,” said Rowlf. They snuggled together and enjoyed the cool breeze of evening while watching the stars.
