it`s not that hard to understand. See, in the Caper, Kermit tells every scene that they are playing in a movie, so that movie is not real life. In the Carol, Gonzo plays Charles Dickens.

They arent fictional characters per se, they get treated with respect like any other guest say on Jay Leno, Hollywood Squares, etc. Ive seen em in person, as believe me, you'd be hardpressed to think of em as a puppet on a performer's hand.

But they are all just actors, with a SAG card. Whats in the Muppet Show tv shows and movies is their acting...like any other actor in Hollywood. What you see on these shows is just entertainment, scripts, etc. What you see in person is seperate(ie: Kermit talking about how they were only married in the movie)
The Muppet Show was also just acting, its all one tv show.

I don`t think that TMS is acting. That`s real life I think.

Orginally it was Miss Mousey, but he's not easy-going about Miss Piggy liking him, nor does he like it when she is interested in someone else. It's kind of the thing where he doesn't want her, but doesn't want someone else to have her. I knew a girl like that about me once. She didn't want to go past being friends, but MAN! did she throw a fit when she found out I took someone on a date! WHEW!

Miss Piggy, obviously, is crazy about the frog, and her constant advances and hard-pressure love for him I think causes him to reject her the way he does.

As far as real-life et al, I think the difference is that what we see on the screen that is not "SHOW" material is their real-life.

IE:
The Muppet Show, MFS (unfortunately for some), TMM, I would consider real-life, because we see their foils backstage and on-stage. The new christmas film shows behind the scenes things, which I consider part of their real-life, but then there's the show of Moulin Scrooge, some real-life elements thrown into it. Finally, as mentioned, SHOW: TGMC, MCC, MTI, with some scenes (kermit and piggy yelling in the park in TMTM) that let you know real-life is going on as well as their acting careers.
