When it comes to Muppet knowledge, I've found that sharing has only benefited me. I've made friends that otherwise would have permanently been "that one person," and earned fun nicknames that I otherwise never would have had (like "Cookie Davidson," the day I paired a Cookie Monster t-shirt with a Harley-Davidson jacket
). School projects that I've re-worked to incorporate the Muppets have almost always gone well, and for the one year that I was a teacher and my synagogue's religious school, several students dubbed me their "favorite teacher," I'm sure primarily because I had a habit of setting the curriculum aside to lecture on/clarify anything Muppet related that they could think to ask me.
I tend to be much more hesitant about spouting any non-Muppet knowledge, primarily because I've been marked as an "outsider" for being "too smart" for years, so I pretty much keep quiet until I know that people won't stare at me like I'm a freak of nature. Believe me, it's an entirely different stare from the "You are certifiably insane" stare that I get for spouting Muppet stuff. That one, at least, I know is accurate.
