Well, I'm a little embarrassed to say, no I've never been made fun of for liking The Muppets. One time I watched a Sesame Street special while in the third grade, and they laughed at me a bit. But it was good natured.

However, I have been made fun of for other interests. And it's definitely NOT fun. I wish people would not feel so threatened by different tastes. It was hard, but I refused to give in or hide what I enjoyed just because of some teasing.

As you get older, you encounter that less and less. People don't care as much and EVERYONE has an odd taste.
That is so true. It's horrible being made fun of for something that is dear and close to your heart. But I agree with what you're getting at. As you start to get older, you and the people you once knew start to mature and realize that it's okay to enjoy the things you love no matter how lame they may seem to other people. That's the beauty of life.

I was never teased for bein' a Muppet fan... then again; I was never really teased that much because I've always been the "big guy", no one likes to mess with the big guy, except for the "little guy" with the Napolean complex. I got teased for being clumsy because I grew so fast, but I was also quick witted and always had a comeback, so if someone was willing to mess with me, I'd shoot 'em down verbally, and if that didn't work, I'd threaten to beat 'em up, which fortunately always scared 'em away as I don't really know how to fight. :embarrassed:

Well, my dad's kinda ribbed me about it once or twice, but we're all Muppet fans where I come from so it's no big deal, and my roommates and newspaper buddies are fans to some extent as well.

Back in high school, I mainly got teased for listening to "old" music instead of the hipper-than-thou sensation du jour.

I've never seriously been made fun of for liking the Muppets. In fact, my love for the Muppets has been encouraged or egged on more. I think my friends find it endearing or "cute". I dunno... Actually, you'd be surprised how many people who aren't exactly Muppet fans to our level still have atleast a small appreciation for them. The Muppets have just been a part of who I am and everyone knows that. Especially when I teach them about who Jim Henson was and his vision, I think they understand a bit more. And also, I've been made fun of for other things in my life which hurt 100 times worse. Again, I've never been hurt for liking the Muppets.

Well, like most of us 'ere, I'm a devoted Muppet geek and darn proud of it!
Oh same here. Heck, I get excited when I meet someone who remembers "those two old guys", or Fraggle Rock...let alone someone who knows era specific Muppeteers, obscure trivia, production details, and erroneous Muppety facts^^

Ha, but see...now even the popular kids claim to be "geeks", as geekdom has been latched onto by the mainstream corporations and pushed as the hip new thing:smile:

There's one thing that a lot of people have been made fun of for that has happened to me: wearing glasses! I NEVER heard anything about being a "four-eyes" or things like that... in fact, a lot of people think glasses are one of my trademarks.
That's so strange, as most my friends wear glasses...glasses I think are now seen as "hip"...heck, I'd prefer to date a girl who has glasses:smile:

Of course, every one of us here on this forum is a Muppet fanatic. But their are other people out there in this world who believe that the Muppets are stupid an are for little kids. Was their ever a point in your life where someone made fun of you for being a Muppet fan? I sometimes got teased a bit in school when I was younger. Did any of you ever have that kind of experience?
Oh totally. And even those people who get that I'm into the Muppets the way some folks are into say, Star Wars or Star Trek, they are puzzled...thinking they are just some 70's/80's nostalgic trip.

I'm not expecting to find or run into people that are actual "Muppet fans", but itd be nice to know people who at least has a fave Muppet or can see aspects of JHC's work thats cool to them.

My best friend Amanda, who is a Muppet fan, thinks I take it to far. You can often here her saying, "I love you Matt, but..." She is my best friend though and I love her dearly. So it doesnt bother me.

Those people exist? I thought that was only saved for MCers.

I must find one!

My step brother and his friends--in high school--were going to make fun of me once, and I almost cowered and denied my fandom. Instead, I held on full strength and swore by it.

Yeah in high school my friends used to rag on me all the time. One day though, my friend who used to tease me the most, actually told me that he thought it was cool that I liked something unique and I wouldn't back down no matter how much I got teased over it. ^^
