For some reason Brunos line is not in the closed captioning of the movie. Is it written in the english subtitles on the DVD (if the DVD has english subtitles)?

Anyway, Bruno has spoken a few other times. He once sang a song called "Put It In The Trash Can" and I have also read that he spoke in a special called Here Come The Puppets.

Carroll Spinney played Bruno at the same time as performing Oscar. Spinney is in the Bruno costume and there is a hole connecting Bruno's stomache and Oscar's can for Spinney's arm to go through to manipulate Oscar. Bruno was created as a way to mobilize Oscar back in the earlier days. Cool, huh!
Bruno has to be one of the most innovative muppet/costumes there ever was. Bruno is also the only "human" muppet costume that I ever recall seeing (except for the times Ernie, Bert, and the Count were on skates).

I've sometimes wondered why they said that Bruno was a way to mobilize Oscar since Oscar had been mobilized several years before that. Sometimes he would simply go out of his can and move like any other muppet. Other times he'd walk with his trash can. The first episode where they showed Oscar's feet moving out of the bottom of his can was a pretty creative way of mobilizing him at that time too.

I think it may have just been time for something new and Bruno was a great idea.

I often wondered about this too Gee Bee. Oscar has been seen without his trashcan in different places on the street. Like the time he showed up in Ernie and Bert's apartment and devored the yucky dessert Ernie had just made with a Banana with Gravy and Ice Cubes. Other times he showed up around the street like in Hooper's Store, and The Fix it Shop. With no Trashcan with him.

Yeah, I know that much. But it was mentioned in "Sesame Street" encyclopedia that this is possible because Bruno doesn't speak. Now, he did speak in "Follow that Bird" which is why I was assuming somebody else did the voice while Carroll was in the Bruno costume. It didn't even sound like a Carroll Spinney voice, so I've been curious about that.

Well, Caroll Spinney hasn't done very many other voices besides Big Bird and Oscar, so it's probably possible that he can do voices that the hardcore fans wouldn't recognize. I know that he often performed one-shot anything muppets during the first year, and he occassionally performed other characters during the first few seasons, but he mostly just sticks to performing Big Bird and Oscar. I have heard some voices on some sesame street albums that I thought might have been caroll spinney just because I couldn't recognize the voices, but I have been told otherwise on most of those voices (I wondered if he was the mother from Five People In My Family, but then I reead that Lorretta Long was the voice of the mother, and I also thought that he was the queeen in The Tale of Tom Tattertall Tuttlett but then read that Jerry Juhl did the voice).

Sometimes you can see a clear wire attached to Bruno's mouth, which leads me to believe that Spinney still does the voice. If he didn't do the voice I am sure they would tell us who does and it would be one of the other main performers. Also, all the sources i have seen have only listed Carroll Spinney as a performer for Bruno. I have heard him in interviews imitating Jim Henson's characters and Bruno sounds a little like a Rowlf the Dog type. I am not doubting you. I am just stating what i know.

I can only think of three times when Bruno was most likely performed by somebody other than caroll Spinney.

1. In the scene in Follow That Bird where everybody is preparing to leave. Bruno is in the crowd as Oscar is driving, and Oscar has a speakign part in that scene. I doubt that they would have had somebody else perform Oscar and then have Caroll Spinney dub the voice later just so he could perform a non-speaking role.

2. I once saw an episode of Sesame Street that ended with bruno carrying Irvine in a trash can. I think Irvine started day care in that episode. Anyway, in that scene with bruno transporting irvine, Oscar was also in a trash can in the regular spot that his can is. Martin P. Robinson performed Irvine, so he was most likely performing bruno in that scene.

3. In The Muppets: A Celebration of Thirty years, Bruno was in the audience. At the beginning the camera moves around the audience, and Big Bird, oscar, and Bruno all appear in the same take in different areas. I think Caroll Spinney was probably performing Big Bird in that scene, although none of those characters spoke at the beginning. During the closing song there was a shot where Bruno was seen and Big Bird and Oscar weren't, but I don't think Spinney was performing Bruno in that scene. I don't think they swithced performers for characters during the closing number. It's been awhile since I last saw this special, but I think Brunos voice can be heard in the chorus of that scene.
