my question is why is it called a mail it shop instead of a post office? imagine a kid in school and the teacher says what's this building called? the kid says a mail it shop. teacher says. no johnny, it's called a post office.
Well, it's easier to say. And it explains the function better.

Mail it!

Well, I believe what the other poster stated. No one get's things fixed. Especially toasters when you can get a new one at Walmart pretty cheap!

And I thought the Mail-it shop was more of a Mailboxes Etc. type of thing. Which is now the UPS Store. So children should not confuse it with the post office.
Of course, the "postman is a person in your neighborhood" became "the lettercarrier is a person in your neighborhood" you have to be politically correct you know!

As for money, there actually were some isolated incidents when currency did change hands at Hooper's Store. In the 70's, a cantankerous elderly muppet got angry at David because he accidentally gave the muppet too little change. The muppet made a sign that said "Don't Shop Here" and picketed the store.
I think you probably meant to say 'in the 80s' there. David didn't run the store in the 70s. Mr. Hooper did.

No, this was in the 70's. David worked for Mr. Hooper and often ran the store for him in the 70's. That's why David inherited the store after Mr. Hooper's death.

They should have put in a Wal-Mart.

I remember a Mail It Shop episode where Maria's copy machine broke down and she had to call a service company to get it fixed. Has Maria forgotten her fixing skills already?!

I do not think she had experinace fixing copy machines (or magic Ukeleles for that matter). Only way I can explain it.

After all, 90% of the time it was toasters that they fixed.

>>apparently they ran some tests and discovered that kids nowadays don't know what a fix-it shop is because well, who gets things fixed anymore? if something breaks you simply buy a new one. We live in an age of vast consumerism. So it was decided that they would havea mail-it shop instead which would help open up to having more traffic and sillyness on the show. hope this helps.<<

Exactly. And with lots of UPS stores and Mail Boxes ETC.s around, it makes sense. Just thankfull they didn't turn it into a "copy-it-shop" (Kinkos) or a "Berw-it-shop" (Starbucks..... there's none of these in my town, but in Boston, there's like 5 per corner...) :stick_out_tongue:
