I hope you all love this "Father Marty" story I had an idea for. It's what I imagine could have happened after T*K*O closed down.

CHAPTER 1

Father Marty was troubled. Ever since the disbanding of the Thread Killers Organization he wondered what he was meant to do. He had tried to apply for a thread killer's job when his good friend D'Snowth had been sacked but it had turned out he wasn't cut out for it. However he had been appointed as the Organization's very first chaplain by Mrs.Pepper when somebody had told her that he'd make a far better priest with his strong Christian faith and devotion. And so he had functioned well as the Chaplain. He had been there for counselling, guidance and special prayers for any T*K*O member who had been in need and wanted to ask. Once he even had to pray with and for Mrs.Pepper involving a tragic case of the sudden death of an old friend of hers with whom she had fallen out with. That had been so difficult. But he had done it with the Lord's help.

But he had only been with them all for approximately one quarter of their time as a functional unit. Then they had suddenly been disbanded by those in higher authority and they had said a tearful good-bye going their separate ways. Father Marty had remembered to thank Mrs. Pepper for letting him be their Chaplain and he knew that this was what he most wanted to do. He had told her that he was going to work with the Catholic Youth Ministries and so he had been certain at the time.

However when he made applications he had been told that there were no vacancies for working with the Youth. He tried every parish he could but always he was turned down for one excuse or another. They had enough workers or they didn't think he had enough experience or even of all things, he was too fat. He was hurt badly by some of their insults but he turned the other cheek and prayed "Please forgive them Lord".

Finally he came so close to despair and he prayed "Dear Lord God. I am at my wit's end. I want to serve you as a Chaplain but nobody will give me a position anywhere. What is your will for me really? Please open the way for me to do what you want me to do!" Then he suddenly had visions. Scenes from things he remembered from television shows like Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock and Muppets Tonight flashed before his eyes. He could see Muppets fighting and hurting each other in the Muppet Theater and Muppet Television Studio. He saw grouches insulting people and silly, hurtful pranks being played by friends on Sesame Street and lack of understanding between the creatures who lived in and around Fraggle Rock.

When his eyes flew open he exclaimed "Now I realize Lord. There really are already plenty of people helping the Catholic Youth. You want me to be the first missionary to the Muppet World. It won't be easy to sow seeds of love and harmony among some of those breeds of Muppets. But with your help I shall endeavour to try my very best."

CHAPTER 2

Father Marty withdrew his savings from the bank and bought a ticket at the railway station for Sesame Street. He had decided that would be the best place to commence his ministry among the Muppets.

After his journey he moved into an apartment in the main Street and set up a makeshift Chaplain's office. He had his library of Spiritual books lining the bookcases by his desk and chair. He had done the apartment up very nicely including a cd player for listening to some beautiful Gospel music throughout the day. But he also had some Muppet music cds to play sometimes. All work and no play would make Father Marty a dull Chaplain. Besides it was good to show how much interest he had in the Muppets in this way.

Susan, Gordon, Bob and some of the other humans on Sesame Street had introduced themselves to him and made him very welcome. They arranged for his free service offer to be advertised in the windows of The fix-it shop and the Store that had belonged to the beloved Mr.Hooper sadly missed by all on the Street. It said that if any Muppet wanted to talk to a professional comforter about anything pressing on them they could see Father Marty in Apartment number 77. Or leave a message on his phone number if he was out when they called.

Father Marty sat in prayer at his desk the following week after he had settled in. "Lord. Here I am ready to do your Will. I have made myself known to all Muppets living here that I am willing to talk to them about whatever problems or concerns they may have totally free of charge. And if I can sow seeds in a few hearts along the way I pray I do a lot of good in your Name. As they are sent by you give me the words appropriate to say to them. Amen."

Just as he'd finished there came a knock at the door making him jerk his head up quickly. Who was it? Could this be his very first client?

CHAPTER 3

Father Marty stood up, walked to the door and found Cookie Monster outside in the hall. "Hello Cookie. Come in." Father Marty cheerfully directed Cookie to the chair in front of his desk and Cookie sat down. Father Marty sat down in front of him and asked "What can I do for you?"
"Me feel so sad." Cookie sniffed. "Me was playing baseball with me friends and me made them angry with me."
"What did you do?"
"While me was waiting for me turn at bat me grew hungry and ate all the spare bats and balls. Oh what can me do?"
Father Marty rubbed his chin. "Well my friend. Those weren't even edible things that you ate. They were for playing baseball with. By eating them you ruined the game for yourself and all your friends."
Cookie sighed. He knew deep down that it was true. "You right Father. Me shouldn't do anything like that. Can you help me?"
"The important thing Cookie is to want to help yourself. I can lead you through a course of counsel and support if you would like to make an appointment to come and listen to me tell you about the God who can help solve all your problems. Can you come once a week starting tomorrow at 2 o'clock and I'll have everything prepared for us to begin?"

Cookie thanked Father Marty and said he would definitely come tomorrow afternoon and they shook hands. Cookie suddenly grabbed Father Marty's cuff link and ate it. He was sorry

I had to cut off the third chapter because I was online at the library and my time was up. Here's what happened after Cookie ate Father Marty's cuff link:

He was sorry and started to howl but Father Marty comforted Him.
"That's all right my son. Old habits can't be changed overnight. With God's help He can remake us. But He knows how weak we are."
"Oh thank you Father. Me feel so much better." Cookie blew his nose on Father Marty's tie and said, "There. See? Me no eat your tie after blowing me nose on it. There hope for me yet."
"Yes Cookie Monster. See you tomorrow."
"Bye Father."

After Cookie left Father Marty took off his tie and went into his laundry to run it through his washing machine. He laughed and prayed a silent prayer of thanks to God for the signs Cookie Monster was showing. Just one convert was all he needed to make a beginning. And hopefully his ministry would spread throughout Sesame Street and beyond. He had to prepare for Cookie's first lesson. He prayed that he would be truly receptive.

Nice stuff Marty, I enjoy your writing style. I also enjoyed the scene with Cookie Monster. Just make sure he still gets to eat his cookies  Looking forward to more.

CHAPTER 4

The very next day, which was a Wednesday, Father Marty was all ready for Cookie Monster's visit that afternoon. He had done his research and made his notes. He prayed very hard for Cookie. "Lord. Please guide me in what I say to Cookie. And may he be truly open to the message."

At 2 o'clock sharp there was a knock on the door and when Father Marty opened it Cookie said "Hello Father. Me all set for me first lesson."
"Come right on in Cookie."
Father Marty ushered him inside where they sat at his desk to pray and talk.
"Before we begin Cookie, let's ask the Lord to bless our discussion."
They folded their hands and bowed their heads closing their eyes.
Father Marty prayed. "Gracious Lord. Please be with Cookie and I as we talk about his problems and how you care about him. May he understand that you love him no matter how many times he fails to do the right thing. I hope he will learn that he can change his habits with your help..."
Just then there was a tremendous loud CRUNCH but Father Marty kept his composure and finished his prayer, "even though it may take a long time you will always forgive him and never give up on him in the Name of your dear Son, Jesus Christ. Amen"

When Father Marty opened his eyes there was an enormous bite taken out of the front of his desk. Cookie looked very sheepish as he slowly finished chewing and swallowed.
"So sorry Father. Me tried so hard to resist temptation but me couldn't."
Father Marty reached over and patted him on the head. "That's all right son. Even I fail to resist temptation sometimes. But God never stops loving us. Now shall we begin?"
