Does anyone know anything about Farley? He was a green Muppet boy who sounded a lot like Gobo Fraggle. I was wondering if anyone knows when he first made his debut on the show, and if anyone could tell me some street stories he was part of. I'm sure he appeared on the street, all The Muppets did back then. The only street appearance I know of is him saying F is for Farley! out in front of Hooper's store in a 1972 episode that was on Noggin years ago. But that was just a brief little cameo appearance. If anyone who was watching the show regulary during the 70's knows anything about Farley on the street set, please let me know. The only things I know about Farley is from old books I had when I was a little kid in the 80's. By that time he was no longer on the show, with the exception of the ocasional old insert that he happened to appear in.

Here's a Farley thread that has a few posts, including a couple I submitted. I always liked Farley and had wished he made more appearances on the show than he did. Another great voice job by Jerry Nelson, too.

Farley goes back to some very early years, has been in some good skits, and has even been on some Sesame Street records. Yet, somehow, it seems like he never quite made it to the big times of Sesame Street muppets. Not sure why. I'm not certain of when his last appearance on the show was or if he does in fact make any appearances today.

Yeah I feel the same way, GeeBee. Farley was a recurring character, but not all that regular (kind of like Barney Hefner on "All in the Family" or Uncle Arthur on "Bewitched"). Perhaps some of his appeal to me was even for that reason (Since his appearances were rather sporadic, it was kind of a treat when we did get to see him). I always thought he would have been good to include in some skits with Ernie and Bert, since he is another male person (not monster) muppet. Plus, being voiced by Jerry Nelson that would have been very feasible. They probably didn't do that only because they wanted to do many Ernie and Bert skits with just them alone (in tradition of the typical buddy roles (eg. Laurel and Hardy, Fred and Barney, and even SS's own Buddy&Jim and Raplh&Wally).

Farley debuted in the 1971 premiere. The last time I saw him was in the late 1990's. He was in the library with Elmo singing a new version of "People in Your Neighborhood" about computers. Don't know the episode number off-hand but maybe someone can confirm.

Interesting observations, Ziffel. I seem to remember Bert interacting with Farley in one skit, but I could be wrong.

The only time they seemed like they tried to add a "third man" to the Ernie and Bert team was in the very early years, when Cookie Monster (or Beautiful Day Monster) would interact with them. But, that had to have been before Frank Oz started performing Cookie Monster.

Farley's voice was on the Sesame Street 2 album in Big Bird's song, "Everyone Makes Mistakes." Curiously, the illustrated sing-along booklet that came with the album, did not show Farley in that song, but they illustrated Farley as the boy in "Has Anyone Seen My Dog" page, even though that was actually a muppet called Marty.

Farley was also on an album about feelings where he cried about a lost kite and Olivia comforted him.

Farley on video

Farley has been seen in a few videos. i guess the most major appearance by Farley on a video was in Getting Ready To Read, where he appeared in a song called That's What Readings All About, where he co-starred with an even more minor character, Same Sound Brown, and this segment took place in Rosevelt Franklin's classroom.

Other videos where you can see farley include Learning About Letters, where he appeared in the background of the Alphabet Song, The best of Ernie and Bert, where he appeared in the audience at the movie theatre, and Sing-Along, where he made a brief cameo during the closing number.
