I saw this on Plaza Sesamo once. Can anyone tell me what happens in it?

Ernie tells Bert about long and short, while cutting the licorice short.

They did 2 other similar ones to this in the early 70's One was with Ernie and Bert eating Pizza and drinking grape juice, the other was with Jelly Beans. It's funny I remember Buster doing something similar to Hiroshi in a Sesame Street episode from the 1989-1990 season with Sandwiches.

Ernie's solution was to eat the pizza and drink the grape juice to make it even. still he naturally and more than Bert. and with the jelly beans skit.

The classic licorice whip candy one! Ernie brings home a surprise for Bert - a bag of licorice whip candy that they can share. Bert is delighted and puts his arms around Ernie saying, "My buddy." But poor Bert won't get to eat any of it! Ernie keeps trying to make the pieces even and eats the differences in the process. Yep, just like the pizza and grape juice one. I'm not sure if I saw the jellybean one. By the way, the ending of this licorice one was great with Bert giving a very funny exasperated sigh and the end music that accompanied it. (This music was used at the end of several other SS skits, such as the one where Ernie accidentally buries Bert in the sand and then Sherlock Hemlock).

Is it any wonder why Ernie's fat and why Bert's thin? Ernie keeps eating all the food leaving none for poor starving Bert. :frown:

Yes a brilliant observation Xerus! I'm trying to think if I recall ever seeing Bert eat any food. The only one that comes to mind so far is the one where Ernie and Bert make peanut butter sandwiches. While Ernie was spreading the peanut butter on the bread, Bert was really excited and said, "Oh boy this looks SO GOOD Ernie!" Now I understand why a simple peanut butter sandwich looked like filet mignon to Bert. The poor guy was famished and this is one rare time where Ernie was actually going to let Bert eat his part of the food!
Oh and there was one time we know Bert ate a banana because Ernie was dejectedly holding the banana peel. But that was off screen.
Ohhh wait, there was another time too. When tough Eddie bought Bert an ice cream cone for accidentally knocking over his sand castle. Bert was licking away and going "mmmmmm!". Atta boy Bert! Well deserved and long in coming!

Thank you for complimenting my thoughts.

Also, I remember a time Ernie kind of got punished for his food filching. Ernie ate one of the pieces of cake Bert bought. And Ernie made up a story about a monster eating it and leaving. Bert didn't believe it and left. But then Beautiful Day Monster came in and ate the second cake and handed Ernie the napkin and fork. When Bert saw the last cake gone and Ernie with the napkin and fork, he left in disappointment and poor Ernie got upset.

In a way, Ernie kind of got what he deserved for all those times he took Bert's food. Bert didn't believe him one bit.
