DVD/VCR recorder recommendations?

I'm thinking of getting my partner a VCR/DVD combo unit for Christmas this year. Since I've also been in the neighborhood for getting a DVD recorder to transfer several VHS tapes I have over to DVD, I was thinking about getting a unit with a DVD recorder as well. Does anyone have recommendations? I checked Amazon for reviews, but so many of them are negative, I don't have a clue as to which units are good ones. I don't really need anything fancy; just something that will play VHS tapes and DVD's as well as make a decent DVD-R copy from a VHS.

Thanks!
Mickey

Thanks, Kimp the Shrimp! Those are a bit more expensive than I was hoping to spend right now, so I suspect I'll end up just getting him a dual unit that plays VHS tapes and DVD's and will save up my pennies to purchase a unit that burns DVD's later on.

$150 is more along the lines of what I could afford right now.

Thanks! I'll keep that one in mind when I go shopping.
