Not trying to offend anyone, but...to me it does
In the book, animated special, and the movie, the Grinch's arguments are always one-sided. Sure, he talks to Max about everything, and it's clear that Max disagrees, but the Grinch never pays any attention to him. Now that he can actually HEAR Max, it makes the relationship less... what it was.
