Ok, I saw a glimpse of the musical during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and ::relief:: it looks much better than the movie. At least at first glance.

It seems that they've tried to stay true to the actual story. As opposed to the movie, which made and made it's own story.

The thing that bothers me is hoe Mrs. Seuss wants to commercialise every thing and go for money when thats not what her husband was about. The content of his books stood on it's own and held up and remained their integrity all these years. I kind of feel that all this is cheapening that in a way.

I really didn't like what I saw during the Macy's parade. The fact that Max can talk makes his relationship with the Grinch seem... I dunno, cheapened? In the book, animated special, and the movie, the Grinch's arguments are always one-sided. Sure, he talks to Max about everything, and it's clear that Max disagrees, but the Grinch never pays any attention to him. Now that he can actually HEAR Max, it makes the relationship less... what it was.

Plus the song was bad.

Well, I don't think it takes away from the book or cartoon. It's just a different point of view for a different medium (theater), and it seems like it works. And I liked that they used the original song from the cartoon, and how the Grinch answered to the lyrics.

From where I'm coming from, all I care about is that it's better than the movie.

Wow, usually I'm the one who bashes new stuff! This is a switch.
