Even though it's not listed in the book, I believe it's the same thing with Alan. On, and off Sesame, he's still Alan Muroaka (sp?)
I mean even though actors play characters on tv with their same first names all the time, such as Mary Tyler Moore (as Mary Richards on her sitcom), Ted Knight (as Ted Baxter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"), Lucille Ball (as Lucy Ricardo on "I Love Lucy"), Tony Danza (as Tony on pretty much every sitcom he is on), I think Sesame Street is different. They are basically playing themselves.

Thanks for the info D'Snowth. Will make some additions to the names already in the list.
However... Regarding the info you have for María, what's this "Nee" stuff? And shouldn't it be "F-I-G-U-E-R-O-A"?

they probably named the SS character after David Golez, once again correct me if I spelled the last name wrong.
He probably wasn't. david first appeared on Sesame Street in 1971, while Dave Goelz first joined the jim henson company in 1974, so David couldn't have been named after him, unless somebody who worked on the show had already known Dave Goelz (not as a puppeteer or puppet builder).

I didn't know if I should trust it since imdb isn't the most acurate of sources. Just happen to see it and questioned it since it was new info to me. I trust you guys here more. Thanks. Also, go ahead and put your questions in the "How to get" thread. That way I can answer them but others can be informed of the answer or even help if needed as well. :zany:
Yeah. You can't always trust imdb.com. They even said that the Road Runner spoke in one Warner Bros. cartoon.

I don't recall Bob or Linda's last names ever being referred to on the show. I always just assumed they used their real last names along with their first names. Shouldn't just assume things, but I think this time it is pretty safe. I would probably say the same as Ruthie, even though the actor is Ruth (no "ie") Buzzi. Also Savion. He was basically playing himself anyways. Anyone else have any answers or thoughts on this?
Sorry about repeating a post again, but there is another thing I want to bring up about Bob and Linda. They really can't be playing real life characters, because in real life Bob is married and has five sons I believe. On the show he's a bachelor and was involved with Linda, so I don't know whether or not he'd really call his character 'Bob McGrath.'

Also, in response to the names on the list. I believe Mr. Hanford's name was also 'David.' (No connection to Northern Calloway's character) I remember an ep where his niece called him 'Uncle David.'

'Gina Jefferson' is pretty much understandable since I've seen the name on the door of her vet's office.

Wouldn't it properly be "Dr. Gina Jefferson", since she's a licensed veterinarian?

I'm hust going by what the book said. It said Maria Rodriguez (nee Figeuroa). I believe the "nee" is acknowledging her maidene name.

By saying playing themselves and using their real names does not necessarily mean that they are literally parallel with their lives off the show. He can still be Bob McGrath. Watch "Fresh Prince" sometime. Will Smith plays a character named Will Smith, but their lives aren't exactly the same. In the SSU book they talk about how Bob McGrath didn't know who he was supposed to be or what to do on Sesame Street. The producers told him to just be himself, and "He's been Bob ever since".

Yes, that's what I mean.

Yes. I see what you mean now. That technique was also used with Drew Carey and Jerry Seinfeld. That is interesting info about Bob. Makes me wonder if any other actors were told to just 'be themselves.' I guess Linda kept the same name on the show, because she's probably used to responding to 'Linda' in sign language and wouldn't feel comfortable changing that. I'm just guessing though.
