I couldn’t agree more that people’s safety comes first. But people’s bills aren’t going to pay themselves, and if everybody defaults on loans, mortgages, medical bills, and all other financial obligations there will be no government relief big enough to bail everybody out.
And Canada can manage medical care somewhat better due to smaller population. 30 million there vs 330 million here.

you know, i've heard some school districts are thinking of staying closed until january. and i really cant say i blame schools. schools are just a breeding ground for diseases, especially because most schools really dont bother to sanitize things. that's up to the individual teacher to do and...a lot don't. plus its just impossible to keep schools heavily sanitized anyway because lets be real, kids are gross.

but you do have to wonder how that will affect kids who dont have home computers or internet access. i've been told one district around my area has a mobile wifi station with computers that they're using but if that's the case that's still inconvenient and defeats the point of staying at home.

That's why we should do like Canada and basically just waive everybody's bills for the time being . . . but no, that'd make 'Murica a Socialist ***** country, and we can't have that, now can we?

What I saw is that they are giving a monthly payment of $2000 to those that are unable to work due to the Corona Virus until they are able to work or for 4 months depending on which comes first. Where did you read that they just waived everyone's bills?

So Canada is giving each unemployed person $2000 a month? And what is the U.S. doing for the unemployed? Hmmmmm. Giving each unemployed person an additional $600 a week. Let's let our resident 'Murica-hater do the math.

Honestly I’d rather live in Australia or the United Kingdom at this point. There have been days I have just gotten tired of this country.

Again, that’s easier to do with 30 million people compared to 330 million. In order to keep the country solvent, and to be able to have funds for medical care, unemployment and other necessities, a revenue stream has to come from somewhere. If not from higher taxes, then borrowing from somewhere. And no country is going to hand over trillions of dollars to us, when other countries were dependent on us for support.

For a country with this many people, no financial institutions are going to waive payments indefinitely without some type of collateral . No bank would loan you any money if you weren’t considered a good risk.
If we did waive everybody’s payments, I’m sure most people would try to repay their loans, but there will be others who will take advantage of that and never repay a dime. But then the burden will fall on those who were honest enough to pay back in good faith. Unfortunately with a country this size, the Honor System won’t work.

And maybe our resident 'Murica-hater should take in to account that $2000 a month in Canada is the equivalent of $1500 in the U.S. when taking in to account the conversion rate. Please get back to me how we aren't doing enough compared to Canada.

Also, its $600 a week on top of unemployment benefits from the state. Plus the 1200 stimulus. I'm looking forward to my first unemployment check. It will be more than my regular check was.
