AIEEEE!!!!

On the negative side, I hope Columbia-Tristar doesn't shoot themselves in the foot by releasing the same volumes that Time-Life did. If sales are bad, it's obviously partly due to a number of people who already own the same volumes on DVD :frown:

I just don't get the marketing mentality sometimes. Don't they want to *sell* these things?

Muppet Show DVDs

I think this is the best idea for now. It would be great to have them listed by season, but since the Muppet Shows have no real timeline as far as plot I don't see the necessity to release them by seasons except that it would ensure a complete set. This way we get no dupes and the loyal fans that bought the set won't feel taken.

What has always disturbed me about the set is that it is labeled "The Best of The Muppet Show" that implies only select episodes, but if they sell enough volumes they may release more under a simple Muppet Show banner, but with the same graphics. A frogboy can always be hopeful!

I agree that Disney likes to control their product and would likely nix continuing plans if the sale occurs so we have to snatch these up quick or wait for Diz to release them someday and hope they will include the whole set. The thing is, that would not likely happen for several years. They would want to wait for demand to rise again.

It's great to think that they we'll at least get half of the 12o regular episodes with volumes 1-20! I hope they tag an extra ep on to each disc, but that's me wishing again. They'll likely be the same with the standard extras. Not complaining - they are relatively solid.

But it is a good thing to people who already have them because they are not missing out on anything and just collect the line from the new ones, you'll have to wait a bit thought.

Zack)Rowlf the, Waitting is part of being a Muppet Fan, but the key is being paient, Dog.

I like that they will be staggered - it helps 'cause I'm not made of money! LOL! The busts, the figures, the DVD releases, the possible fest and other stuff we don't even know about yet. Woohoo!

Scott has a good point-- the duplicate release could hurt sales and falsley imply a lack of interest in the DVDs. Hopefully, vol. 16-20 will sell really well and the marketing folk will have the brains to figure that out.

While I would love to see more episodes out on DVD, I'm glad it looks like the releases will be exactly the same as the TimeLife DVDs. I bought the TimeLife set on video before it came out on DVD. Then I bought it on DVD. I don't want to buy those first 30 episodes a third time! I would have prefered the eps come out by season, but since TimeLife started it this way, I'd like to just stick with it.

I wonder which episodes will make the cut for 16-20.... Anyone have guesses?

It could hurt sales for Columbia to put out these dupes, but in my experience - many people didn't know these discs even existed. They weren't heavily marketed in the areas around me.

I don't think the public at large would invest in all the eps, but I'm sure a good amount of people will pick up some. They could be hot items individually and the cover art may have more to do with it than anything else. If the Swedish Chef appears on the cover, that could be the selling point for a particular customer. Just an idea - because most people don't remember what was on which show.

And this keeps the seires going - hopefully to 40 discs to be complete! Hey, it could happen!

I tend to think that the Time-Life set is unknown to most people. I found out about them because I actually went looking for them. Though my search was immediately gratified, I still wouldn't have seen them if I hadn't taken the proactive stance.

The Tr-Star sets will be great for getting impulse buyers. People who say, "Hey, the Muppets. These guys are great. Remember when...?" No doubt it'll increase the fan base. I don't have any of them yet, I was going to save up and get the 30% off from Time Life. Now I'm not sure what I'll do. More than likely, I'll see one that catches my eye and I won't be able to pass it up.

Incidentally, I recently bought the MM DVD for 15 bucks at Target. My mom babysits these kids next door, and the kindergartener had no clue about the Muppets except for Sesame Street. I had the sweet opportunity to introduce him for the very first time to Classic Muppets and create a new fan.
