Charachters who were phased out rather than written out

As we all know a lot of Classic Sesame Street charachters have been written out of the show over the years. A lot of them were simply there one season, and when the next season began they were gone (ie: Dr. Nobel Price) But there was however a few occasions were a charachter was a regular on the show, then suddently had somewhat of a minor role before they were officially written out of the show. Here are a few I can think of

Ruby Monster: Was a very major part of the show during the 20th and 21st Seasons, she was only used a handful of times during seasons 22 and 23, and finally was gone permantly at the start of the 24th Season.

Forgetful Jone's Horse Buster: continued to be seen on the show by himself, even after his owner Forgetful was no longer on the show (due to Richard hunts unfortunate passing in 1992) he was seen every once in a while from 1992-1994. But by the time the 1994-1995 Season began, he was gone.

Sherlock Hemlock: Seemed to be a pretty major charachter back in the 70's. Once the 80's came around he wasn't around very much. You would see him pop up on the street, mabye once every few years. He continued to be shown very occasionally like this until the mid 90's, when he was finally done away with for good. With the notable exception of The Mysterious Theatre skits, that reran into the late 90's.

Any others?

Your'e right about that. He seemed to be a very popular charachter from his debut in 1985-1992. After that he was still there, only very occasionally. He had a Neice called Athena who was introduced in 1986, who was written out of the show completley in 1992, right at the same time they began to phase out Hoots. For a few years there, I'd say from the late 90s-2004. Hoots wasn't seen at all. But made a comeback appearance this season in a brand new skit with Cookie Monster. So yeah, your'e right. Hoots did get a quiet phase out.

I guess Hoots had been popular enough with kids and adults to justify his return this season. Still, Athena helped boost her uncle's "AWWW!" factor; she's one of the few minor characters whom I actually miss.

Forgetful Jones, despite his own memory problems, was memorably funny and had a harmless flaw compared to those of other Muppets. (Don Music and Super-Grover injured themselves; Harvey Kneeslapper played annoying practical jokes; most other Muppets obsessed themselves with a favorite thing...but Forgetful Jones' amnesia wasn't his fault.) If the Workshop hadn't decided to drop most of Richard Hunt's characters, I would have liked to see Jones stick around as one of the few Muppets with human-like, adult roles.

I just thought of a few more. Though they were human charachters and not Muppets. Olivia was phased out for a few years before she actually left the show completley in 1988. But Iv'e heard that's because she was appearing o 227 which was filmed in Los Angeles and Sesame Street was filmed in New York, during her last few years there. Also Uncle Wally wasn't in many episodes at all during his final Season on the show (1991-1992) but I think that may have been due to the actor's declining health, because he looked rather ill the last few times I saw him on there.

Or how about Benny the Bunny? When they started "around the corner", he was the bell-hop for the Furry Arms Hotel. He would also appear from time to time in street scenes and inserts in non-bell-hop fashion. Then he suddenly more or less only appears when random bunnies are needed for scenes and inserts.

I think Linda was starting to be phased out in the 30th season, and I think she only appeared once in the last season that she was a regular in.

Since the eartly 2000s, Herry Monster has been phased out.

She probably just left.
