Which is why nothing changes.
If you listen to what some of the reps are actually saying, I'll take stagnation over those backwards changes. More money for the rich? More spending for the military (which even actual conservative voters don't want)? More oppression of gays? They're a caricature of themselves and I fear the same 2000-2008 Freedom Fries repressive fear mongering would happen if they got back into the government.

Meanwhile, we have people hating the Occupy movement (which again, is disorganized and not going to solve anything) not caring about senior citizens and pregnant women getting pepper sprayed there because they're all apparently rapists and drug dealers (especially the senior citizens and disenfranchised Iraq war vets who might just wind up on the streets) because of a couple cases over exaggerated by the "liberal media." Today, they were supposed to do the ONE thing I wanted to see... marching down to Wall Street and giving the middle finger to the Investards that keep selling out our futures. But once again, they had to be stopped so that fat little 40 and 50 year old walking ulcers can get to meetings on how they can screw the Middle Class even more by cutting even more corners so they can get even more short term profits.

Guess what happened today? These leaches on our society (the Investors, not the protesters) freaked out about Europe again, and we're going to drop into a "double Dip" recession... which, let's face it... it's more like the 753rd Dip as these people are so incredibly bipolar on news that there's news. it's like every time they're closer to resolving it the market gains like 30 points... every time they hear there's a stumbling block, the market goes down a couple hundred. Seriously... these people need to CHILL THE FRAK OUT! Money out of OUR market means less jobs. And I have to say WHAT Recession? The only people hurting are the lower classes... even the upper middle is having a tiny problem... companies are making record profits... even if only it's because they're cutting corners, asking for government hand outs, not paying taxes, and artificially propping up their profits with unneeded price increases. That's going to kill us again in the long run... but the fact they refuse to share the wealth in the manner of job creation and paying their fair share of taxes (to fill in a debt brought on by them getting some of the most generous tax handouts in history at a time of 2 unpaid for wars we HAAAAD to go into)... well, that's exactly why the Protestors are protesting.

How about taking neither?

All we're doing is going back and forth. The Repubs come in and screw up so we bring in the Dems. The Dems come in and screw up so we bring back the Repubs and then back to the Dems. It's insanity and we have no right to complain when we keep it going like this.

Like I said, a Third Party seems likely, but there's nothing organized or even appealing to anyone outside the extreme right or extreme left. I will say, at least there have been some progressive strides lately. Homosexuals can now fight in the horrendous Middle Eastern Quagmires we keep getting into, and the president is TRYING to makes sure they come home to jobs. If that's the best we're going to get it's sad... but we'll take it. But let's be honest... our problems exceed the political and that's the thing people want to change, but can't. No matter who's in charge, they get bought off... but we can find something mutually beneficial in the right candidate.

That said, I still don't get the hate over the watered down Healthcare bill. I mean, yeah... I understand no one's happy about the requirement to buy it or find free government alternatives. But that was created by Conservative Mitt Romney AND it was one of the concessions they added to make the right vote for it... you know, instead of giving everyone free healthcare like the rest of the civilized world. But we ALL know what's going to happen when it's repealed... every single health care provider in the country will raise their rates higher again. Because they can and that's capitalism... and then when they lose money, they can cry to the government to get some.

Still, the real danger is the Investurds that keep manipulating the price of oil... causing the prices of goods and services to shoot up to make up for A) the cost of the shipments and B) the loss of money they're anticipating for raising prices. We need regulations about oil stock trading... no one's gonna do anything about it, though. Unless we threaten not to vote for certain people.

If you have epic rants about the little stuff going on now...my friend, just wait til the Michael Bay summer blockbuster level of insanity that will unfold in America and the world next year:smile:

Also I find it funny Newt Gingrich is in the running...that guy literally makes his money from Nigerian Prince email type scams and taking big payolas from the very Fannie May and big Pharma he rallies against(no joke)

And Herman Cain? Why would he need secret service protection? I dont see why right wing racists would threaten him...he's the most hardcore far right winger GOP candidate Ive ever seen. Ever. He makes Bush look like Noam Chomsky or Howard Zinn

The political scene then is going to be hideous and disgusting. We're going to have attack ads (from the right especially) that look like a sadist's nightmare. And more calls on a very not at all "socialist" president for being a socialist. Ineffective and the puppet of lobbyists (though, show me one that isn't a product of lobbyists, and I'll show you someone who's a state comptroller who's yet to be the product of lobbyists) that completely forsaken his party base... sure... socialist ain't what he is. No matter how far far right you try to spin it. And then the left's PATHETIC attempts to say "these are the same Bush guys who want more Bush policies that we were completely unable to get rid of." Not looking forward to it... if Europe wasn't collapsing under the weight of their own stupidity, I'd be packed and ready by now.

Newt's a hedonistic sex monkey who demonizes homosexuals while cheating on his mistress. Of COURSE he's hypocritical about his own payola. The scandals his primary campaign were fraught with should have been a red flag. What do they call it when you have multiple fake accounts on a message board or something just to keep spamming the same ideas over and over and creating false fans? The Dilbert guy got heat for that and he's a cartoonist.

Cain's only reason for needing the secret service is because he's an egotistical nutjob. He has no idea about foreign policy, his 999 is just a buzzword with no substance. He wants to crap all over Obama's Libya strategy and he doesn't even know what it was. Yeah, if he got involved, he'd probably have bombed Portugal or something. It's clear he wasn't presidential material, and I swear they were only behind him because he WAS black and to see all the liberals that supported Obama be hypocrites about race... you know, so the neo-cons can rub their "we're superior to everyone even ourselves" noses in it.

But as I said... Cain was accused of sexual harassment... Newt dumped a wife on her death bed, chasing after every skirt he could find all the while trying to take Clinton down for lying to the American people about an affair he had (behind the back of a HEALTHY wife that he STAYED with). Why is that so much better?

Anyway... is no one else surprised the "Superduperultramega Committee" was hot air? The Reps refuse to see the wealthy's taxes go up a SHOCKING 4.5% and the Dems refuse to cut things that were already cut because they had to make budget to fit those tax cuts in the first place. I can't help think that they SHOULD have jammed a budget back when the Dems were in power... but the rest of the fault lies on the duped Tea Party who voted for the same neo-cons in maverick government outsider clothes. A dysfunctional government that supports union busting to save a tiny piece of the budget all the while keeping government handouts to those corporations that refuse to invest that money, let alone their own? How is that capitalism, how is that fiscally conservative, and how is that for the very things the tea party claim to stand for?

I agree about Gingrich, but the idea that Clinton "stayed" with his wife is laughable, heh. It was all political.

I was just rediscovering episodes of that '80s kids show Today's Special, and there was this one episode about a greedy rich kid who declares he's taking all the toys in the store, rather than letting them go to a charity. One of the show's main characters then does this song that I actually thought perfectly references our current economic situation. I swear, if this show was on TV today, I guarantee you'd have some parents complaining that the show was promoting Socialism! :insatiable:

"No it doesn't seem right that Junior gets what he pleases.
No it doesn't seem right that he gets all he wants in the store.
No it doesn't seem right that Junior wins and Give-a-Gift loses.
No it doesn't seem, doesn't seem, doesn't seem, doesn't seem, doesn't seem to be right tonight.

Junior doesn't need all the things he's taking. Well he's got plenty of toys. Why is he so greedy when he could help the needy? Someone ought to tell him that he should be more thoughtful that he could be a much nicer boy!"

Yeah, but if he were to dump his cancer stricken wife on her death bed like Gingrich (and Edwards, though his wife was only just diagnosed) did, that would be despicable. Yeah, it was all political, but you know what? Worked better for Hillary. She's seen as the strong one, and the one who wears the pants in the family. If anything, Hillary stayed with her horndog husband. Politics or not, it's a strong conviction NOT to dump his butt.

My problem is thus... both sides manage to have those politicians that go cavorting around like that... but one takes a strong stand on "Moral" family Values (read: anti-gay agenda/complete media censorship). It doesn't make it right when the other side does it by any means, but to deny (and even persecute) loving monogamous gay partners while jumping from bed to bed is just...really... I can't even say hypocritical, because it goes far beyond that. it's all politics, it's all for votes. Still, I love the revelation that at least half the Reps that wanted to impeach Clinton for lying about something (that, frankly, was his own business) had their OWN nummy on the side.

That's what confuses the heck out of me. We're told that one of the most important values, especially in a religious context, is to help out people less fortunate than you. Most of the educational social morals shows talk about that, no problem. And yet, our culture celebrates greed. Look at those terrible Kardashian shows. Why do we even need one? That's why I don't buy into politicians claiming religion. Sure, they're all about religion when it comes to hating gays and blowing other countries up... but when it comes to the social values, everything's socialism and/or ignorable.

I'm so glad I'm hearing of more and more millionaires BEGGING to be taxed. Why can't more of these guys have a conscience? The only other wealthy people who "donate" only donate to putting in power those who will let them keep their tax cuts. Maybe if you didn't NEED to buy government, all that money you'd save would equal a tax cut.

Not to me. As a woman, I have zero respect for Hillary for staying with such a jerk of a husband. Especially to forward her career. It's insulting to women and set a poor example to young girls.

Our usual argument, DrTooth, there is no lesser of two evils in politics.

"No man can serve God and money."

People read that, but they don't learn from it. They don't want to admit that they can't have both.
