Ken, about the stage playset...

Hiya!

I was thinking back to a time when I built a stage (with working curtains) out of a cardboard box way on yonder years ago, and the backdrops were on posterboard that I could put in the back of the stage, just like you mentioned above, and so I think it's a great idea! It's even such that you could print a different scene on both sides of the cards to put in.

Too bad they didn't allow the Mahna Mahna figure into the contract. What if we began a letter campaign to JHC like we did Disney about the MTI and MCC being in widescreen? Would that help?

Thanks for your work, dude!

How about Strangepork also comes with his biographies, "I am not Strangepork" and "I am Strangepork!"

Re: chances and more

Hi Ken

Just wanted to add to previous post. As far as the idea I mentioned about 'booster packs' of background characters, would those have to be considered part of the series specifically? My thinking was they wouldn't occupy a figure slot but would be additional, like the Stage Playset isn't occupying any regular playset slot, it's got a special spot of it's own. Maybe put together a pack of characters- a pig in a maroon tux, a small, non-articulated chicken, small non-articulated frog and maybe a dog or a human. Create a pack of these, or maybe two, to sell in addition to the regular series. Just a thought.

The Stage Playset: two more backgrounds for you- a plain black and a plain light blue would be good. Also, recall that the Muppet Show placard (with Kermit in the 'O') goes in front of the curtain- would there be a space for it to go there or would it have to go in the back like the rest? Or would there be more than one slot where you could put them? It'd be super (though probably unlikely) if you could actually raise the TMS placard like they do at the beginning of the show.

Two more questions about that placard. One: would you make it so Kermit could actually be held in the space behind the O? Two: would the O open and close?

One last thing: how many Muppaphones do you think Marvin Suggs would come with? Standard number is 8 on the show, but will production costs be able to take that?

I'm pretty darned excited about all this. Hope the questions aren't too much.

Ken-

Your idea of printed backdrops is great! I see no problem with holding them to the back of the theatre with notches. My one contribution to this is to have them printed on plastic. While the cost of the substrate would be higher, it could be double sided to cut down on material cost. It would allow for extended play value by sidetracking obvious paper issues such as tearing, bent corners, and spills. While I personally would love to see a theatre playset with a working fly system. I undertand that this would be a huge cost over-run and probably put the playset at 200.00. Which of course means notches. To solve the whole Muppet Show raising logo issue, that could be solved with a small winch and rod running ahead and parralel to the grand curatain. If any other theatre design issus arise, I spend more time in theaters than i do at home.
