I was never a fan of the term "hella" because I feel if you're going to curse and actually say the term anyway, you should have the guts to go for the gold and say it outright! Such a California term that was never adopted in my Texan vernacular.
I really don't speak like a Texan either. Many native Houstonians are the same way, but I'm the only one in my family that didn't develop the accent.
I do say "y'all" and appreciate the eloquence of the southern term. It was "you guys" that sounded inferior to me when living in Manhattan for a year. Both are okay, I guess. I just prefer y'all.
*an added note - contrary to some belief there is no "y’allzes" in any part of Texas I've traveled.
