I am actually playing Nana the dog and Jukes the Pirate

Awesome! Nana is a great part and kids love her. I played Nana a few years ago. I wasn't a pirate too, but I was just Nana and that was all I needed. The costume was amazing! It was just like the Barkley costume on Sesame Street only it was black and white and brown and made from feathers(to give it that fluffy shaggy look). I loved it so much. Since then I always had a very special connection with Nana because of the way the children responded to her. I was able to do a lot of acting and even though my face wasn't scene I was doing expressions and faces like crazy and they still got across to the audience. The only tough thing about it was the hot costume. There is a lot of running around in the opening scene which was exhausting and the head of the puppet/costume did not ventilate too well. It was all well worth it though. Embrace the role and have fun with it. Nana is a very special character in the play.

I am really loveing playing Nana. It is a ton of fun and as far as the kids I see it all ready. The little boy that is playing Michael does nothing but pet me through the rehearsal. I have to ask him to stop when I am not in the Nana costume. You are also right in the fact that the only drawback is how hot the costume is. Mine is homemade. Basically it is a sweatsuit with mops sown to it. It looks really cool and we are just doing face make up. Thats why I am playing Jukes because he is the first to die. This gives me enough time to reaply the face paint. It is a very physical show. I think the only show that I did that was more physical was Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.
