Thanks for the compliments everyone. :)
Osvaldo Ruben: All of the patterns that I have used were the simple series patterns and can be bought on project puppet.
A big thanks to John Claybourne at the Bashful Puppet Blog for the pattern and videos. I made this puppet for my granddaughter Colby's 5th birthday this past May. So here we go:
Pattern traced and cut.
Made a liner in a very easy way than I have in the past. I bought a swatch of printed...
Well here we go again. I made the following puppets for my wife, daughter and another one for my granddaughter. I did these three puppets at the same time and although it was difficult to make my deadline of Valentines Day I got it done. So here we go:
Sketches
DinkyDoo
Dolly Doo-Doo...
Preparing my own special product tags. Has my "company name" BigWilly's Puppets & Creations on one side and the puppet's name on the other.
Body Sleeve sewn on.
Making arm rods. Wanted to make these as child safe as I could since it was going to Colby.
Fitting facial features.
Making the...
Before anyone asks no this isnt a Skeeter replica, lol. I have based this puppet on my grand daughter's "Cuddly Monster" halloween costume a couple of years ago. I also used Paul Louis' videos as a reference since I was using the Roly pattern from Project Puppet. So without further ado here...
Great idea for those hard to find stripped patterns. I nearly went crazy trying to find a green and stripped fabric for Skeeter's horns. Found a kid's t-shirt in Giant Tiger for $3 and used that.
I trimed the hands and feet with a pair of scissors from my beard trimming kit. I left a few strands of fur at the end of each toe. :D
I have seen the tutorial of using doll joints it was on Puppet Planet. Not a bad idea but I think it would be a little difficult getting the hook part to go...
Thanks for the info on the arm rod pocket. The one I tried was U-shaped and that would be the reason why it doesn't work out very well. Your design is what I think my BigWilly Whatnot has for his pocket. It seems to be L-shaped like yours. As for my Skeeter he isn't a replica of Scooter's sister...
Do you have a picture of how the arm rod looks in comparison to your inner sleeve and how it looks placed in the hand? I did a simular version for my Skeeter puppet but the rod ends just kind of sits in the pocket and will flop out with big hand movments.
An anti-pill fleece is what I was thinking too. I will try the polar kind as that is easier for me to get. An interesting thing I just found online while researching fleece was that "Polar" fleece is actually a brand name. The main kinds are anti-pill, brushed & micro, they are differentiated...
I was wondering if you can't get Antron fleece what would be a good alternative, anit-pill, brushed, micro, etc? I'm starting two more monsters and need the fleece for hands, feet and bellies. :D
Chris
That's awesome! Wish I'd thought of it when I got mine. Looks like you bought other eyes and noses too. Keeps them more like the original Whatnots. ;). :D
Was the body and leg pattern from Project Puppet? How much fur did you add on top of the pattern? All I would need is the melon head pattern and I could start one of these.
Lol I know what that feels like. I just finished making my first puppet on Saturday for my Grand Daughter's 3rd birthday ( thread soon to come ;) ). During the party my grand daughter wanted me to make it talk so I tried. It was the second time I've done this and it was horrible, but to those...
