I just returned from the 2019 "Beyond the Sock" workshop with Peter Linz and Noel MacNeal. It's like a four-day (obviously much expanded") version of this, plus puppet building with Project Puppet. If you want to really get the real training, this is the workshop for you!
While practicing along...
In a small way, the question is kind of like saying, "I have a concert to do next month and I'm hoping that someone here can teach me to play the saxophone by then." You simply cannot shortcut the learning process, nor the creative process. So much of it really is experimentation, even for those...
The company I work for manufactures camera straps out of neoprene. Though you can't see it, Garth (my Avatar Photo) has a mouthplate made of 1/4" thick neoprene that has red lycra bonded to it. This mouth acts as a regular rigid one, but if I need any flex I have it immediately. It has held its...
I'm afraid I can only afford the watch & chat, which is how I participated in the last class. Such an unbelievable experience!
See you tomorrow! (At least for awhile... I have to duck out early for an opera performance!)
BJ's class starts tomorrow! Don't miss the fun and incredible information presented live!

Just a few days left to sign up for this class. Believe me, you will not want to miss it! BJ teaches top-level, professional techniques that are within the grasp of anyone! This is information you can put to USE! No pie-in-the-sky fluff.

Hey all! BJ Guyer (The Muppets, Crank Yankers, etc.) will be teaching another puppet-making workshop through the Stan Winston School of Character Arts. The classes are taught live via video, and class participants can type in questions, or ask for clarification. It really is the next best thing...
Click this link to see the above-mentioned pattern. You'll notice that it costs a few bucks, which is as it should be. I don't imagine you'll find anyone to "give" you a pattern, as they are usually the result of much trial-and-error and research. The creators deserve to get a reimbursement for...
I would recommend using Design Master Floral Spray paint. (http://dmcolor.com/explore/color-sprays/colortool-sprays/#&panel1-1) I believe it is chemically compatible with foams, and is advertised as being safe for use on "styrofoam brand" foam.
This class was so incredible! BJ says that he may teach other classes and the next one is likely to be on foam carving. I highly recommend the Stan Winston School, and BJ Guyer is, in particular, a really great teacher!
Articles? No. But if you are not finding what you need, check out the resources I've mentioned. They contain everything you need to know to get a puppet onto your hand!
Welcome to the forum!
Making Muppet caliber puppets is not a simple task! But you can learn to make puppets from a number of different sources. My advice to you is to do some digging in this very forum. Don't ask for informational handouts, but really dig in and do some research. You'll be...
Just a reminder that tomorrow morning (8:00 PDT, 6-28-14) is the final live session of this course. Tomorrow's focus is on character features such as hair- eyes, noses, costuming etc. and I understand there will be some minimal manipulation instruction as well.
Just to let everyone know, you can still sign up for this even though the first two sessions are complete. If you purchase the course you can watch the previous sessions and then watch the last one live this coming Saturday June 28, 2014 . (Watching live you have the opportunity to ask BJ...
As with all puppet-making materials, there are no hard and fast rules. This is why you are not likely to find a ready-made step-by-step guide to what you seek.
I have seen contouring hoops made of everything from rattan to nylon tubing to thin wire. I've also seen elaborate under-costumes with...
