"Warhorse: The Puppeteers Speak" in New York

On April 13 there will be a presentation in New York by the puppeteers of Warhorse. It is free, first come-first served. Here is a link for more information. I sure wish I could attend!

    Gasket Rubber Alternatives

I've used gasket rubber, as mentioned available at major hardware stores, and it is not inordinately expensive. I am fortunate to work in a factory where we manufacture camera straps from neoprene, so occasionally I get some scraps. 3 mil is better than 6 mil, although both work well. If you...

Puppeteering in Front of a Greenscreen?

There are many options available. I personally use Final Cut Pro & Motion. You also need a really good camera to get an image good enough to be able to pull a decent key. Lighting is also very important. Ideally your subjects are far enough forward so as to not cast any shadows on the green...

    Audrey II

Buck is right. There are two books of How to Audrey II by Martin P. Robinson. They are detailed books about building all 4 plants from the original off-broadway production. They are only available to companies who are licensed in production for the show through . I've built two sets of puppets...

Thanks, Buck! As usual you've saved the day!

    Simple Animatronic/Cable Controlled Hand Tutorial

OK, it's been almost three years(!) since this thread's been active. I remember mentioning that I wish I'd had the tutorial when I was building the Ghost of Christmas Future. Well, it's time to rebuild him, and the link to puppetbuilding.com no longer works... does anyone know if this info has...

    Little Shop of Horrors Commercial

My local theatre is currently producing Little Shop of Horrors. It kills me that I don't get to be in it, but their rehearsals went up squarely against my wedding and honeymoon, so I had to prioritize!:D I can at least console myself that I have gotten to be in numerous productions before. I...

Advice on What to Wear Under a Fullbodied Puppet Suit

I have found it useful on most occasions to also wear a sweatband. Once I was in costume for a very long time and had a real difficulty with sweat running into my eyes. The sweatband helps a lot! I agree that dressing lightly is the best way to go.

    Any Tips for Arm Fatigue?

You're not likely to find a mechanical solution that works in all situations, although you may come up with something that helps. As Buck mentioned, conditioning is the key. We're asking our muscles to do something that they don't do everyday, so fatigue is naturally going to occur. But if your...

    New Puppet Company Logo

I agree with Steve... although you may not need a name change, just substitute an ampersand for the "and".

    Foam Head/Filling

Your first example was not carved from a single piece, but is made from flat sheets glues together. You can even see the seam on the left side. This one in particular appears to be made of reticulated foam and looks an awful lot like the three piece method described in Gray Seal Puppet's The...

    Flesh Colored Antron

Steve- If someone does post one, just beware of the fact that many peoples' cameras are not properly color balanced, not to mention monitor calibration, etc can result in far less than accurate color representation.

    Looking for Puppeteer Protective Gloves

Probably what would work best for you, and with minimal investment, are cotton gloves such as are used for handling photographic negatives and other sensitive items. You can find them at B&H photo for next to nothing in cost by clicking this link. They actually have several different grades...

Romeo & Juliette Class Puppetry Project

I think I see where you're trying to go with this... the only trouble I see, if I understand you correctly, is that if you're getting comedic reactions AT ALL in the balcony scene, it can only come at the expense of the characters. Depending of course on local culture, southern accents are...

Romeo & Juliette Class Puppetry Project

I would suggest that for the best grade you stay closer to the assignment rather than taking it too much in the direction of your interests. We all love Jim Henson, but it's kind of reaching to feature a 20th century performer in an assignment on the 16th century. Unless of course you make a...

    My puppets in EBAY.

Well this is just a rehash of your former post. I didn't comment then, as I felt others had already addressed some issues, but since you've started it again, and have asked again, I'll offer my comments. First of all, I understand why you use the words "professional", "Muppet" and Sesame...

Avenue Q's response to Bohemian Rhapsody

So evidently the folks at Avenue Q are wanting to ride the Muppets' coat tails once more with this video. I still like the Muppets' videos better, but thought you folks might enjoy this.
