The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I….. have a pretty big hunch the OG poster on this thread is EXTREMELY heavily active on Reddit. :search:

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I mean Elmo being overly-exposed popular isn’t anything new in this current decade or the past. I was already aware of that experience when I was taping episodes from 36-39 from 2006-2012 (when my local CVS at the time stopped selling blank VHS tapes and I was by this point not really as...

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I mean I can agree Elmo has been frequently shoe-horned unnecessarily way too often when the popularity of his character really spiked with “Elmo’s World” (which honestly only dropped in quality for me the more episodes were produced, but it could also just be my bias talking of when I...

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

It’s also worth mentioning every Muppet character that has real-life human flesh skin tones also at least has a specific nationality identified to their race rather than just being “black” or “Asian” etc. Elijah and Wes are African-American, Ji-Young is Korean-American and TJ is...

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I mean even with his retirement, the Brown AM pattern would still often be used for other characters. So creating new characters with real life human flesh skin tones that are a big part of their characters isn’t anything new.

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I also understand this was all the way back in season 1 when very often pre-existing Muppets would be recycled into other characters, but we have had at least three Caucasian characters beforehand long before the Brown AM pattern was made (and more puppets with real-life human flesh skin tones...

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

We’ve literally had a Brown AM pattern since season 25 of Sesame Street. Once upon a time, Kingston Livingston was a major recurring character on the show during the ATC days.

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

The show has literally been extremely diverse from the very start since day 1 in 1969….. a time when even then there still was barely a whole lot of representation on television and Sesame Street was one of the biggest new changes bringing in diversity to television. I’m not sure what you’re...

How exactly is Sesame Street PC now?

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

I mean not really…. It knows how to keep up with the times and what children are into each year and decade. It’s an educational series that knows how to evolve and grow (whether we’re a fan of said changes or not) so….. I wouldn’t say it’s honestly a “dead horse” at this point.

The Problems with Modern Sesame Street

Yeah, honestly, I really think the “classic” term just needs to be retired at this point, cause all I feel like it’s doing is just putting like the first 21/23 seasons on a pedestal and the rest on another. At this point every season that debuted in the 2000s will soon be either at the legal...

My opinion on Elmo has changed

Yes, that’s exactly how I felt! Like by the time season 32 was over it was just beating a dead horse at that point. And even then, I think “Elmo’s World” was at its best moments during the first two seasons. The season 32 stuff was just okay, then everything else afterwards….. no. Even then, I...

My opinion on Elmo has changed

Personally my issue with Elmo isn’t his character himself, it’s moreso him being constantly shoe-horned and milked to death when his presence (quite honestly) just isn’t necessary. There are times I also feel his character is dumbed down when interacting with Zoe (who I honestly never liked as a...

Buffy Sainte Marie to retire from live performances

Oh goodness…. Well, I wish her all the best in retirement and a rest of her life, but I do hope all the best for her health as well!

Time to liquidate some of my Muppet collection

I honestly would recommend Etsy if you’re looking for alternative options. Best of luck to you with your sellings.

    RIP Muppet Show Guests

Alan was also Larry in the “Larry and Phyllis” season 2 segments in Sesame Street (who I honestly liked more than “Buddy and Jim”). May he R.I.P

Julianne Buescher removed from the Muppets

Sad to see she got such a harsh treatment….. but sadly that is just how the entertainment industry treats women unfortunately.

    RIP Muppet Show Guests

Harry was definitely a tough loss. As the list continues to shrink, it will eventually reach a point every Muppet show guest has passed. And it will be there before any of us know it.
