You're not stupid.
Hey I'm going to recommend Puppet Planet, by John Kennedy.
I took a workshop from him on carving foam heads over the summer & the project we did is in the book. he's a great guy & I love the puppet I created while in the workshop.
I'm *so* not an expert...
My best guess:
polyurethane foam, carve it, airbrush it...Not sure how expensive the blocks are. I'd imagine you can get it from an air conditioner supply store? POSSIBLY an upholstery shop.
The Great Arizona Puppet Theater hangs all of their marionettes protected in muslin bags. Their puppets for other shows (mostly glove puppets or rod puppets) are stored in wooden crates or trunks. They've lasted them 30 years so far. Some of the marionettes are older. When we have our puppets...
Hey Patience, I guess I'd misinterpreted what you'd said about having a good idea of pattern making to mean that you knew the basic idea of how to get the head done & just needed a size reference.
Yeah, I'd spring for a project puppet pattern. I got their glorified sock puppet & was pretty well...
The best thing to go by for size, Patience, is your hand.... And then when burly men say "my hand wont fit in there" make it slightly larger the next time
I make my puppets from the standpoint of sewing, although I don't have formal training in any such thing, so I'm really interested in seeing...
Another case in point
http://www.makingfiends.com had two seasons of webisodes before Nickelodeon brought her on to do podcasts, and now they're finally developing a show for Nickelodeon's cable station.
Do what you do how you're able to do it, make it awesome & push for it & others will take...
You have to admit, that's pretty darn romantic...Not being a puppet guy & knowing very little about fabric, he had to do some research......
I'm a lucky girl!
Rubber cement deteriorates quickly over time. It just won't last very long. Are you possibly using the terms contact cement & rubber cement interchangeably?
tztz, fresh is always best.
nikanap, is the show LIKE the muppet show in that it's about a group of characters attempting to put on a variety show? or is it like saturday night live or laugh in, where there simply ARE a bunch of characters.
Its important to distinguish between the two.
Me and the culture...

Specifically they discuss how the character was created. Thought it might be useful. :) Have a good day!
He's a cutie!
As a seller of things online (albeit not as lovely as the pig) I'd not photograph anything while it's lying on the floor (no matter how clean). It could turn some people off.
Good luck with him!
