Thanks for the in depth reply. One thing the foam book said is they use Sculpt or Coat to toughen up the finger tubes on the inside of the mouth. Have you (or anyone) used it for that purpose. Used anything else for that purpose?
Watch "Emmitt Otter's Jugband Christmas" which has lots of realistic birds flying through the backgrounds and some cool ducks in the opening scenes. Plus it's a great show. It might give you some ideas. The main characters are not realistic however, so there's only a few spots here and there...
Well, I finally got the Foam Book, which is a great resource, but boy oh boy do they love their Sculpt or Coat. I mean, it's mentioned every other page. I'd like to hear from any of you who have tried it. Did you find it useful? Do you use it much? Any opinions appreciated.
Do a treatment or an outline, then a script, then a storyboard, then make the puppets, find people to help puppeteer them, get video camera, etc., shoot it, edit it, put it on the web.
When you've finished that let me know and I'll tell you step 2. ;)
But seriously, sounds like an...
Well, I'm a little late to this party, but I just got the Muppets Magic DVD and watched it last night with my 5 year old daughter. We both loved it. I'm just blown away by the creativity and the artistic daring involved. To do all these creative skits with special effects and tranforming puppets...
Leo Brodie article touches on this.
This does not completely answer your question, but this article, Introduction to Video Puppetry: Manipulation for the Camera, has some very good info on the puppeteer's basic stance.
As far as endurance goes, the only advice I have is take breaks...
I see a lot of questions regarding where to get supplies on the board and did some hunting on the net for a good site that deals with this essential topic. Leo Brodie's site (mentioned in a few other threads) has great advice at http://home.earthlink.net/~lbrodie/extra/supplies.html
The rest...
I didn't think anyone was bashing in this thread, and that certainly wasn't my intention. I hope no one took it that way. I do think if someone says their puppet is "pro" they are setting themselves up for criticism, and selling (illegal) Muppet copies on Ebay is probably not the best idea, but...
I recently got a used copy of "The Muppets Make Puppets!/Book and Puppet Kit: How to Make Puppets Out of All Kinds of Stuff Around Your House" by Cheryl Henson. I know a lot of people here are already familiar with this book and too advanced for it, but for those few who don't know about it I...
Thanks for the link. Pdbooch has some cool puppets (although no pics of the Kermit he made from a plush), and a good video at http://homepage.mac.com/pdbooch/puppets/iMovieTheater8.html.
Krazedmuppet, nice Kiwi!
I think that's the real problem I have with it. If you say pro, your work better look pro, because that's the standard you've set. For someone at home goofing with puppets, it's very good. For "pro", it's so so.
By the way, I emailed him to see if he has any original puppets for sale. He...
Yeah, but that's a nice shirt the puppeteer is wearing. ;)
I'd say given that it's not full body and given that it's a so so likeness (and given that it's illegal), $75 reserve might be a little optimistic.
