I got to meet Rick Lyon

That's so cool that he was so generous with his time! I've been following Rick's work for a long time (since my first jump onto the interweb back in '96, in fact). I've always been impressed by him, and other talented "lesser known" puppeteers and builders like him that have worked in and out of...

    Puppet Bloopers Thread

Gordon, Just bleep the really rough stuff so young visitors and others who are troubled by that sort of thing won't have trouble with their heads exploding. I'd love to see bloopers from TVTV

    DOCTOR WHO with Puppets

Hello. You seem to have put quite a bit of thought into many aspects of your production, script and other ideas. Have you considered the problems you may encounter by using any Muppet characters (property owned by Disney) and/or clips from Muppet movies and shows (property owned by Disney), or...

    Puppet Bloopers Thread

Great idea for a thread. Here's a little equipment related blooper I had the other night... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jXm9dua71o

a different kind of finger puppet

That puppet is very cool. And I'm quite relieved it wasn't a picture of the first thing that popped into my head after reading the title of this thread, (that of a proctologist performing a "different kind of finger puppet.")

    Is This a Good Idea?

Chamois leather material will hold up better than felt on a hand grip. Something to keep in mind for the next modification :)

Suggestions to not cut ones self

I love Legos (not in an unhealthy way... well... mostly not.)

Suggestions to not cut ones self

That's more or less the hot wire idea I was thinking about... with a nice holder thingy for the ball. It's probably a lot more elaborate than it needs to be, but looks like it works fantastically. Gee, I hope I don't have to pay copyright royalties for mentioning a similar concept without...

Suggestions to not cut ones self

That odor is probably just plastic gasses sealed inside when the ping pong ball was injection molded. I doubt they are flammable. But, like most (or all) plastics, any fumes caused from burning (or melting) them will be quite toxic and so good ventilation is very important when working this...

Suggestions to not cut ones self

I have an untested idea that may work for slicing a ping pong ball... Similar to the tip of the hot glue gun theory, but a bit different. Hot wire can be used to cut foam and other similar materials, so why not a plastic ball? A simple jig could be made that would support the ping pong ball...

    Is This a Good Idea?

One way I've seen is using a flexible plastic strip (like narrow molding material) that is the same diameter as the base of the puppet. Glue the spandex (sewn into a simple tube shape) to that and then form the plastic into the body foam by pinching (and gluing) along the base. The top of the...

    Is This a Good Idea?

The spandex lining (or similar material) definitely helps the arm slide into and out of the puppet quickly and more easily. This can be especially true if the puppeteer is wearing long sleeves, or the puppet's entrance is narrow. It should also keep the body foam better protected against arm...

    Happy Holidays from Toasty

Greetings, all! I'd like to wish everyone a Mega-Muppety-Merry-Holiday. May your New Year be groovylicious and chock full of smiles, laughter, and mashed potatoes! The weather has been dicey here all day today, so I stayed in and filmed a lil puppety silliness for the holidays. Enjoy...

    Ostrich Feather Question

Tonyhill.net is an excellent source for feathers. I have ordered the Maribou fringe feathers from them a few times and everything arrived just as it was pictured on their website. I preferred the fringe for the puppet hair I was working on at the time because I wanted to glue small sections at...

    Edgiest puppet show: Wonder Showzen

All very good points by Gordon. I concur. And puppeteering skill is THE thing for me that will determine whether I'm able to even view a show (or a clip) long enough to form deeper opinions about it. I know good puppet manipulation when I see it, and can look past many other technical factors...

    TVTV enters the 21st century...

Gordon, Congratulations on a VERY well-crafted work (in ALL aspects from design to writing to performance to directing)! Your production values were very high and I can see the sort of careful attention to small details that really distinguish this work, and raise it to another level. Your...

    Puppet Show Friday

Congrats on the success of your show! Just be careful taking on any paying gigs and using Kermit or other unlicensed characters in the act. Better to avoid any possible issues with public performance copyrights. :)
