    Awesome-O-Matic NEW VID

This was an excellent, original way to reintroduce your characters with the updated designs. Your staging is much improved in this video (although, you could still afford to loosen up your framing a bit when 2 characters are sharing the same space). Lighting and sound were good, too. The updated...

    New Chensational Puppets Website!

Very well designed site. I had not realized that you were involved with the Mr Meaty/Apollo's Pad gang, too... Nice work! Perhaps you can egg on whomever needs to be egged on to get a nice Mr Meaty DVD collection to market with lots of behind the scenes extras and stuff (but don't actually throw...

    where can I buy this...?

Tony Hill should have every type of feather you'll ever need... check out the Maribou trim for the light and flighty hair and the boas for something more dense with a little less natural movement.

Famous Current Left-handers!- What About Puppeteers!

Another lefty (albeit, a decidedly non-famous one) reporting for duty. :)

    Gertrude McFuzz!

Looks great! One suggestion... cut the eye pupil shape out of a piece of black felt (or black vinyl, or something similar) and glue it over the drawn-on pupil you have there. This will give your eye much more contrast against the white, it won't look gray like it does now, and you'll achieve a...

    My second puppet!

Groovy. My only suggestion would be to use music that isn't copyrighted in your videos. I know I know---everyone does it. But that doesn't make it right (or legal). You can find all kinds of copyright-free and royalty-free music online, in all sorts of styles to match whatever theme your video...

    Barenaked Ladies music video

That's a very cool project to be involved with. Nice work, Stacey!

    Nicky puppet replicas

Mendels sells 3" nap fur. The eyes look like white craft foam sheets cut into ovals, but it could be thicker than that and has a nice smooth edge, so it could be white Sculpy or a similar plastic material made into discs to make the whites, with a glass eye attached to it. Check here for the...

    Trekkie Monster replicas

Carving them from a block of foam and then covering it in Plastidip might work, too. This would also give them a bit of flex so the horns wouldn't crack when bumped around.

Too all the people Undercharging for Thier work

Well put, MGov. And it's been mentioned already, but I'll retype it because it's important: Education and dialog with would-be clients can be the key to getting paid the proper amount for a build/performance. And, hopefully, education (like this thread) and dialog with others in one's...

Oobi - Good or Bad for puppetry?

Stacey, I think you are thinking of Senor Wences instead... Either way, I totally agree that what Oobi is doing is most certainly valid puppetry AND a very positive benefit to the artform. :)

    Brand new Video

Hi Jon I had a feeling you might be dealing with a limitation like that. Projector screens aren't too wide, so that will be a challenge, but here are a couple things you can try to help loosen up your framing a bit: Move the camera as far away from the screen as you can and then zoom in until...

    Brand new Video

Hi Jonathan. I really like your ideas in these video shorts. I've seen lots of improvements in your performances with each new video. Excellent work. One thing I think you could do in future videos of this type is adjust your compositions a bit. You've already got the nice simple framing and...

    foam thickness

It depends on the design, really. But you should always strive to make your puppets as light as possible, so using 1/2 inch foam whenever possible will help a lot. Also, 1/2 will be more flexible for the mouth movements, facial expressions, joints, etc.

    learning puppetry

Hand position inside the puppet (ie: comfort and control when operating the mouth) is very important, too. I will second Blink's suggestion to practice with just a bare hand in front of a mirror or video camera before worrying too much about the puppet. This will clearly show how moving just...

    My First Puppet

Long arms can be very expressive and an excellent resource for the puppeteer to create actions and moods. Look at the designs of Gonzo, Kermit, Animal, Floyd, Grover, Janice... ALL have very long arms.

    Building my new set framework.

Hey Brian Looks like things are coming along nicely. Congrats. I really like the modular concept going on here. It should give you all kinds of flexibility---even to the point where you could swing in different set elements during a continuous take to create those "endless hallway of doors"...
