It's sad that Columbia has been so aggressive with cheap season box sets (Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Cheers, the Jeffersons, and Good Times are all about $20 a season) and the Muppets get three per disc trickling out so slowly.
Anyone know why the 5th season was the last? Did the contract run out and Henson wanted to move on to other things (like Dark Crystal?) Was there a push to move exclusively to movies with Great Muppet Caper? Were ratings sagging (heaven forbid!)
None of the Henson books I read mentioned this...
Thanks for the info, Smy! I'll be getting the Henson special in a trade soon so once I can run off a copy I'll let you know.
How are you getting The Muppet Show at work?
Sounds great. I read that Gilda was the ONLY one on SNL that appreciated Henson and the Muppets on that first season of SNL (and the only one to host TMS later).
I've seen a lot of episode guides but few lists of the Specials. I'm only concerned in the Muppet Show charcters, not Sessame or kermit hosted specials such as Christams Toy or Emmet Otter
Here's what I know, in no order:
Muppet Family Christmas
2 John Denver Specials (Roccky Mountain...

I was going to post another thread, so Jrogers, I hope you don't mind me riding on your coattails. (at least it'll bump you :D )
I'm looking for the same thing. I have all fifteen volumes and am dying to see more (and any specials like Go Hollywood, Celebrate Jim henson and 30th anniversay)...
I'm a HUGE fan of Johnny cash and even though it's not sudden, it's still very saddening.
Anyone ever see his Muppet Show? I've always wanted to and would love to hear a synopsis.
I WISH I still had this one on tape. I must have watched it fifty times after it aired. It looks like a stiff clip show but it's so filled of great performances and Muppet humor that the 'host segments' are the best part!
And Jim does maybe his first cameo when he gets the bill for the banquet!
My fiancee and I have been collecting since series 1. I wasn't interested until we saw them in person. Then we had to have them all!
We have:
Series 1
Kermit
EB Piggy
Dr. Teeth
Bunsen
Tuxedo Kermit
Muppet Labs w/ Beaker
Series 2:
Fozzie
Floyd
Crazy Harry
Invisible Fozzie...
I worked at the Manhattan Museum for a year. The best part about it was staying late after closing and watching whatever I wanted (and a good percentage of that was Muppets!)
Lola Falana is painful. She seemed drugged up and disinterested in being on the show. It's a shame because the plot of Gonzo leaving the theater is fantastic.
I LOVE the Tony Randall episode. He's totally into it, especially after he turns Piggy to stone. He's really funny when he...
backstage definitely. As nice as all the playsets have been so far, I have less and less room and money for them. The backstage would be the one display piece I couldn't live without.
