What's the most useless bit of trivia you know about The Muppets? (The more obscure the better.)
Here's one:
Carl Banas voiced Sweetums in "The Frog Prince". He also voiced the head elf and (I think) Yukon Cornelius in the original "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer". COOL!
I may still have to original TV Guide ad for it someplace. They pretty much ripped off the idea from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" mixing up all the characters like that. It ran aon all threee Networks at the same time that Saturday morning-quite an event for it's time. I thought it was cool that...
I guess I'm lucky being as old as I ma. I got to see Jim's work almost from the beginning.
My mom was really cool about letting my sister and me stay up late even on a school night to watch Jack Parr, but only if The Muppets were on. (For those of you too young to know who I'm talking about...
I'm sure this thread has been posted before, but maybe there will be some new comments submitted.
Where were you when you heard of Jim Henson's passing? I remember exactly.
I was driving home from work listening to the radio for details about Sammy Davis Jr.'s passing that very day as well...
I always think it's weird to see our favorite Sesame Street humans acting in other places. Kinda like seeing your teacher in the supermarket on Saturday.
I remeber "Luis" working for Lou Grant, and "Molly the Mail Lady" playing Dorm Room Mom on "The Facts of Life". My favorite was the...
I can see the confusion since Dennis Allen played it real dead-pan, just like Pat Paulson's character. Paulson (I think) was older. shorter and posibly grayer at the time (early 70's). I was really into both shows (S.S. & Laugh-In) at the time, and I remember thinking when I saw Dennis Allen...
Actually, it wasn't Dustin Hoffman, rather a character actor named Dennis Allen, best remebered for beign a cast member on the original "Laugh-In". Don't know what ever became of him, but I always liked that clip. The punch line was after the split-screen he says to the camera "Which face do...
Unfortunately, I only know "Ernie" online :(
I did some checking, anf the Jim Frawley puppet is actually down fron with the other major Muppets, just to the left of Sam Eagle, and directly in front of Bobby Benson' Babies. I'd post the photo, but it's one of those in-house copyright thngs.
"Dark Crystal II", "Labrynth II", "Muppet Show II", Fraggles II"..Didn't Mr. Henson used to have ORIGINAL ideas?
Oh, I forgot-this is BRIAN and not Jim we're discussing.
Now it makes sence..
Can't wait for "Jack & The Beanstalk II"
I guess I forgot to mention the labels also actually said "Name:" and that they were capitalized like proper names (i.e. "Fat Blue"). The workshop has to refer to them as something when "casting" the puppets, and I don't doubt that the "names" come from the original patterns anyway. Also...
One of the cool things about working the Sesame characters in The Muppet Movie was finding ha! garment labels sewn into their sleves hand-written with their names. Some were permanent characters (Betty Lou, Sherlock Hemlock, etc.), but the others dressed for the camera revealed their "real"...
"THE BOY, THE GIRL & THE JELLYBEANS"
Actually, this is one of my favorites. It was shot VERY early in the show's run. Jim & Frank doing the boy and girl sharing a bag of jellybeans. What makes it my favorite is the really bad puppetry on Jim's part. As Jim's Anything picks up the bag, and...
I had heard this rumor/story years ago and still don't know if it's totoally true or not, but..
Although Jon Stone wanted Jim henson to bring Rowlf into the Muppet cast in order to drum up publicity for the show, PBS officials were afraid that having him on the show would confuse the issue...
Kinda wierd thread, but if we must...
GINA, GINA, GINA! And I don't care how old she is!
Although Maria would be a VERY close second. I remember years ago she worea costume that was off her shoulders..very hott! ("Course I was 6 at the time!)
Funny you should say that since I was going to use Bugs Bunny as an example of what's wrong with the "new" characters. There are a LOT of great puppeteers and voice over artits out there, and I'm sure many members on this board can impersonate a Muppet of two (I can do a pretty ok Kermit...
I've said it before...
Jim's dead, and the great days are over. Just as Disney Feature Animation can never recreate the true glory days of Walt's time, the Muppets are destined to become a licensing company that just happens to use the characters inthe occasional film or tv product-in order...
