Update
Hi everyone,
As suggested, I tore off the neck :o - it wasn't going to work. I took my patterns and made fur pieces from them, slightly larger and made the cap for the head. This took some trial and error of course. In the end I did make a small mistake but I was able to adjust for it...
Hi, I just got the season 1 DVD and it says it has the Jim Hensen pitch that he used to sell the show on it, but I cannot find it - does anyone know what DVD its on or how to find it?
Thanks
No offense taken Ravage :) Now, that's a good idea - sewing the neck to the head fur. I bet that would alleviate a bit of the impingement problem too. So that would solve the jaw issue too - I would just sew the front of the neck fur to the fur on the jaw?
The head was not intended to be...
Wow, those are spectacular William. It's hard to make things at smaller sizes too (IMO) and you really succeeded. I'd love to see a tutorial as well :)
Tom
Hmm, not sure what you mean by rushed ... I posted a rough sketch in the first post of this thread:

It's a rough one, but the general idea. I have been through the foam book and video two times, then began construction, following...
Update
Okay, well - that didn't go so good! See pix:

Had to hot glue because the contact cement would not hold anything really. I imagine the fur is too heavy for one. Secondly, I have the same problem in...
Well I certainly wasn't offended by anything you said :) I am trying right now to make the neck using the wonderful fur I bought - and holy cow what a nightmare! Maybe a bad choice for a first puppet. The glue is setting up right now so we will see how it goes.
My big problem was I realized I...
That's great work. I'd love to see a writeup of how to do the eyes like that (meaning the moving lids). I like the soft, expressive mouth too. Great job!
Tom
I agree $52 is too cheap, even though you may not be a "pro" just yet maybe, it was still a fair representation of a professional puppet in my eyes. Remember, if you don't value your work at a certain point, then nobody else will. Present your puppet as best you can in your auctions and put a...
Thanks guys. Nice puppets Jinx :) I really appreciate all the help! I guess I'm good with my green foam. Maybe it will end up being a good resource (got it at Joann fabrics.) I was hoping the neck would hide the non-90 degree angle, so that's good to hear. I'll post some more pics when I make...
Thanks for the *constructive* posts...ahem. I'll either get some Antron or try this material I bought that has like a 1.4" nap, which would also hide the seams. Really the only reason I asked is that the muppet noses seemed (and it may not be the case) to be made of a really smooth material and...
Thanks everyone again for the tips and offers of help. I will probably take you up at some point! Tonight I finished the 3-piece head. I had some various troubles but it came together. I think this green foam is low quality. Notice the sheen in the pictures? Not sure what that is.
In the...
Thanks Bez, that makes sense. Like I said I wasn't necessarily locked into anything - I really chose the foamboard because this is my first puppet and I am following the foam video method. Since the 3-piece head I made is measured with the mouth I already have (and it's already covered in...
Seems it would be hard to attach the foam to leather - how would you make the lower jaw strong enough if it is just leather? (seems too thin too) - same for the gasket I guess. Is it placed on top of something?
For the sake of argument, how do the muppets actually do it?
