When you say "older" puppets, just curious, how old exactly are you referring? And yes, I wouldn't doubt the quality was a bit better. I do simulated stained glass windows on the side, I was out of it for a few years, and I can definitely tell the difference in the materials now from then.......
Comic book shops had some small muppet plushes a few years back, I know there was a Fozzie, Kermit, Animal, Beaker and Dr. Bunsun Honeydew.....but not sure about Sam. :(

Ingenious! But wouldn't small magnets work as well under the chin as well, between the fleece and foam, and then the other magnet sewn to the underside of the beard or sideburns?
