I wish they'd focus on Prairie too, but again, the show is now geared toward a younger audience than it used to be. They want characters the younger kids will relate to, which in their minds means three- and four-year-old characters. Prairie's just too darn old, they reason, to captivate their...
Week in Review
Well, a whole week of the new improved Sesame Street.
YAY!! No Journey to Ernie! YAY!! I hope it never comes back.
Yay!! Caveman Days returns, with a less biased name but unaltered content! Yay!! I hope we see more classic Bert and Ernie like that sketch.
Yay! A...
Well, yes, they put up preorders based on what the publishers tell them; and generally don't change the release dates until the publishers tell them to.
I'm sure Amazon did have official confirmation from the DVD publisher before opening the preorder page; the question is, was the DVD...
Abby meets Oscar
I had this thought while writing about Abby in her thread:
I was happy that they owned up to the fact that being told off by a grouch would hurt someone's feelings. They downplayed it, yes, but the acknowledgment was there. I'm so familiar with Oscar that I tend to forget...
Approval
You know, I liked Abby.
Reading through the MC article about her I saw the danger that she would be obnoxious and they would be ramming her down our throats with a "You must adore me!" assault . . . but she herself is not like that at all. They--writers and muppeteer--made her so...
Goods and Bads
This was the best experience I've had with a new Sesame episode for a long time. I tend to stay away from the show because so much of it has been weak the past few years.
I hate not only Elmo's World, as lots of people do, but those inane "Journey to Ernie" segments too. I was...
Doubts
I am extremely skeptical about that October 24 release date.
It takes a good bit of time for DVDs to be manufactured, packaged, shipped, and distributed. At this point it's too late for the company to still be making decisions about what will or won't be on the discs and figuring out...
I listened to the NPR segment just now. . . . It seems to me the voice didn't stay the same through the whole interview. At times it sounded a bit like Lily Tomlin's little-girl character (I can't think of the name--the one who always said "And that's the truth! THBBBPT!") and then thirty...
I go back to my long-held dream of seeing a DVD of The Jim Henson Collection--a set of DVDs with numerous pieces by Jim and his company that would be unlikely to see release on their own (including Time Piece and The Cube, Wilkins coffee commercials, etc.). Parts of the Jim Henson Hour could fit...
I guess I kinda like the second one, but none of them really grabs me. Yes, the last one may be closer to the season 1 box art, but honestly, a face close-up isn't the same as a chest close-up, so it's not really a match.
Not that I expect (or want) season 2 to have a close-up shot of Piggy's...
As distressed as I am to see some of the shameless and lame commercials the Muppets get sucked into, I will say it does seem pretty much in character for Pepe to "sell out his own kind for money."
Now Piggy in a Jimmy Dean sausage commercial--THAT would be too much.
Don't forget that TimeLife might own whatever company owns the rights to the song. Maybe TimeLife didn't need to pay for it but felt like charging some ghastly rate for Disney to use it. (I don't know if this is true or not, but the Time-Warner-etc. company owns a LOT of stuff, so it could be.)
ONE: Initially my response was that I want complete episodes only, but reading this thread has swayed me to the idea of having some complete episodes PLUS individual segments by theme--since there's so much we all want to see, and no way in the imaginable future we'll be getting complete...
If there's a bright side...
Okay, if it turns out to be true that season 2 won't be released until 2007 (it's technically unconfirmed still), then that's outrageous. A year and a half between releases is much too long.
But if it's true, then, well, at least my bank balance will be better off...
Don't deprive yourself on my account. :)
I've seen the pictures, and Zoot did a wonderful job, but I don't tend to buy customs. Thog is on my list, but I'm resigned to the fact that it's a crazy dream. . .
Excluding Sesame Street merchandise, here's what I'd like to see:
1. Muppet Movie soundtrack CD (re-release)
2. Muppet Show seasons 2-5 on DVD
3. "The Jim Henson Collection" DVD set--including Sam and Friends, Time Piece, early Muppet commercials like Wilkins/Won'tkins and the La Choy...
In the OTHER thread about this award, I just posted my feeling that they really skimped on the time (I didn't know this thread existed till after I'd posted). A mere 3 minutes is hardly enough to honor this man for all he's done. But I did not watch the first hour and a half of the broadcast...
