    EVA Soft Foam Balls found!

Hi all, Not sure if anyone else has used EVA soft foam balls in their puppet building before (they're mentioned in the Foam Book). These are the hard yellow foam balls that often come with Nerf toys. I love using them, but the big problem for me has always been trying to find them at a...

    Puppet Lovin' in SF

This sounded kinda funky....found it at Puppeteers of America: PuppetLOVE! 2004 is seeking submissions of puppetry for performances, workshops, a gallery exhibition and video event. We will select high quality contemporary work that has a political or social message and/or that redefines...

Will there ever be a Muppet Show DVD Box Set?

There are currently 6 "Best of the Muppet Show" DVDs available I think: - Peter Sellers / John Cleese / Dudley Moore - Harry Belafonte / Linda Ronstadt / John Denver - Elton John / Julie Andrews / Gene Kelly - Mark Hamill / Paul Simon / Raquel Welch - Bob Hope / Dom DeLuise / George Burns...

    Arm Rod Quandary & Such

That's true...I meant that steel and aluminum can't be easily soldered. :p I used steel rods for a long time (there was a big metal supply place down the street from my old studio where I could buy them cheap) and I was very resistant to using copper wire at first, but I've fell in love with...

    Money!$!$!

I'd say the $150 - $350 range is about right for a professional show. Up here most performers charge anywhere from $100 for birthday parties up to $450 for shows in schools (remember too that the Canadian dollar is worth about 30% less than the US dollar). Sometimes corporate gigs can net pros...

    Foam shaping / designs

I use a very different method for creating heads, what I've dubbed "the wedge method." Basically you cut out a series of identical foam wedges and glue them together. I have a tutorial online here that explains it pretty well I think. The tutorial isn't complete yet, but what's there should...

    Henson closes NY office

I think it's really commendable that you're so passionate about this Mark, but most of what you are saying is happening here is purely speculation. I really think you should relax and give the co. & family a little credit. The fact is that JHC is a privately-owned coporation and no one...

Lord of the Rings Trilogy Tuesday

The first Trilogy Tuesday screening at the Paramount in Toronto sold out, but they opened a second theatre (the one I was in) and there were lots of extra seats available...I heard some people here didn't try to go because they assumed it was completely sold out, which was not the case. I...

Lord of the Rings Trilogy Tuesday

This was very cool....by the end you had a real sense of taking a "journey" and it was a treat to finally see the extended editions of the films at last. Some people have been disappointed by the lengthy epilogue, but personally I loved it and I think it will be a crime if they don't get best...

Do the Muppets have nylon sleeves up to the mouth?

Most professional TV-style puppets do have some kind of arm sleeve. I started building puppets with them a few years ago and have never looked back. The real advantage of them is they allow the head of the puppet to turn independent of the body plus - just like Scooter said - they just feel nice...

    3M Super 77

3M's Super 77 is a fabulous spray glue to use - though really environmentally unfriendly - BUT if you are using it on foam it is really only good for gluing fabrics to foam. If you don't use the right type of spray glue for foam to foam gluing either the foam will fall apart eventually or not...

LOTR Trilogy Tuesday - Anybody going?

Well, I'm off to the doctor's for a quick appointment and then going to LOTR "Trilogy Tuesday" - twelve hours of hobbits, elves, coke, popcorn, sticky floors and guys dressed up like Orcs. Though I love the movies and books I'm actually not even that big a fan of LOTR, but my 10 year-old step...

Well, they don't have it back quite yet but hopefully soon! Excellent point though! (he says as he hurls a muffin at vandalized portrait of Sadam Hussein) :zany:

Can we save the Muppet Townhouse?

LOL, coffee money? Have you lived in Manhatten?? Seriously though, I think Jamie addressed a lot of this, but I'm reminded of a point that Jane Henson and few other Henson people made in New York a few months ago...fans often ask "why doesn't Henson do this?" or "why doesn't the JHC do that?"...

    Saddam Hussein is captured!

Ah, Canada-bashing. How quaint. Mark, I was really offended by this post for a couple of reasons. First of all, I said what I did because it breaks my heart to see so many Americans losing their lives and their families grieving. I too would personally like to see Hussein offed...

    Arm Rod Quandary & Such

In the past year or so I have become a big fan of using copper and brass a lot in puppet construction, mainly because they can be soldered (aluminium and alloys like steel can't be).
