Anyone here been on the news?

Last year I was on the news locally here in Mexico. I got robbed by a couple guys and they fled in a cab and ended up dumping my ID and the wallet in the bottom of the cab and the cab driver found it after they got out. In a weird coincidence I had been in the same cab earlier in the day and the...

    Puppet Festivals in USA

I think the Fellowship of Christian Puppeteers are doing their fest near SC next year, but I am not sure. There should be a regional PofA Festival near SC in 2008.

    Using Anatomy in Puppet Design

I tried to access that page from a computer at a school here and it was blocked with the message "Access Denied: Page contains sex/acts." What on earth did you do with that cat?!?! :p

Where do you shop for puppet stuff?

Automotive supply stores are a good source of gasket rubber too. Here in Mexico it is a very do-it-yourself kind of society so all of the auto parts shops seem to carry large selections of gasket rubber because everyone makes their own gaskets.

    Simple necksleeve pattern needed

Also, it's not a good idea to use spandex in my experience although I know some people suggest that. The problem is that spandex will stretch eventually and deform the neck. If you do use spandex for a neck sleeve you can try using spandex with a one-way stretch and make sure the neck stretches...

    Using Anatomy in Puppet Design

No, it's a closed cell foam so it doesn't have pores or a ppi rating. If you have ever used Foamie or craft foam that's actually L200 foam. When puppet builders use L200 foam it is usually either 1/2" or 3/4" inch sheets or a big block that a puppet is carved from. L200 (there are also...

    Using Anatomy in Puppet Design

Hi everyone, I've just posted a new, short article on using anatomy to make more realistically-shaped puppets at PuppetBuilding.com that hopefully some people will find useful - http://www.puppetbuilding.com/index.php/2006/12/anatomy-and-puppet-design/ I will be following this up with a...

    Puppet snowman finished!!!!

Maybe, but it's not so fun when it's 50 degrees in a country that hasn't heard of central heating. Cold is fun more fun with snow...and indoor heating.

That's so cute Betty, congrats. Seeing all these puppet snowmen around here today is really putting me in the Christmas spirit...hard to do when there are palm trees outside. :(

    Any fur suggestions?

Aljo should work fine. For years I stayed away from dying fur, but Aljo works great.

    Simple necksleeve pattern needed

Well, generally a neck sleeve is just a tube of fabric. The exact pattern really depends on the puppet. I usually just make a tube that is tapered so that one end is the size of the opening in the bottom of the head and the other is the size of the opening in the bottom of the puppet's body.

My new puppet on ebay: BOOGIE

Nice puppet, but if I can make a suggestion don't use a picture with part of the puppets face obscured as your main photo. People on ebay want to see what you're selling and won't always click on your listing or scroll down for more pictures. If you're putting lots of work in to your puppets...

Why do everyone think they're pro?

There's an article on the Newsy Vents Blog today about this issue as it relates to ventriloquist figures. One interesting suggestion he has when shopping for a puppet is to email a few experienced builders and ask them for their opinion of the "pro" puppet you are thinking about buying.

Why do everyone think they're pro?

Actually, now they are even listing plush toy puppets as "professional" too.
