It's always a good idea to do a test on a small piece of fabric first, every time you die. Many people seem to find Aljo dye best (that's been my experience too), but RIT works too.
I don't think there is necessarily a connection...although a lot of puppeteers are great visual artists too. I started doing puppets as a teenager partially because I was interested in and studying animation, but couldn't draw to save my life. I've gotten a little better. Just a little though...
Puppet Mania is a good book, but it's kind of a "puppet craft" book. There are good techniques in it though. John's second book is "Puppet Planet" and gets in to more advanced techniques.
I've updated my Puppet Building Resources article with a few new resources. I think most people on here have seen it before, but for anyone who hasn't it's a "quick start" guide for anyone looking for a lot of good puppet building resources.
The article is staying online, but this will likely...

Maybe you're thinking about Of Muppets and Men? Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I'm 99% sure Jim Henson was never credited as an author or co-author of a book like that.
Jim Henson never wrote a book like that. There is "Jim Henson: The Works" and "No Strings Attached" but they are not puppet making books, although they have some interesting and helpful information. There is also "The Muppets Make Puppets" but that is more of a puppet craft book.
I have a list...
Hmmm...I think Chase makes a good point about developing static vs. moving strength (those aren't real terms, I just made them up). I think muscle endurance and flexibility is more important than strength.
I love those exercises Super Scooter, thanks!
I don't think people will watch shows just because they have puppets (or Muppets) in them. That's a faulty assumption that puppet/Muppet fans make a lot I think. TV networks do of course program with a kind of herd mentality - Hey, Heroes is hot so let's make super hero shows! - but I think that...
I didn't like that "Sad Kermit" video, but while we all know from past debates on this issue that Fair Use can be a murky concept I suspect that Sad Kermit is a legitimate (if distasteful) example of it, while these replica puppets clearly are not.
I also gotta say posting auctions for Count...

The old one should still work, but this is much easier to type in. ;)
For a metal can metal shears would probably work better than anything. One thing though is DO NOT use a power tool. Especially if you're not sure what you're doing you could get seriously hurt. Cutting curved metal surfaces can be really tricky (sheet metal and flat surfaces are easy by...
You know what I would recommend is don't use a metal trash can, use a plastic one (white preferably) and paint it to look like metal. Especially for stage purposes, this works really well and it's easier, especially if you don't have the tools or experience to work with metal.
You can cut most...
I am surprised no one has mentioned this here yet, but Project Puppet has a new "Melonhead" puppet pattern that's part of their simple series.
It looks pretty good!
