I'm at a point now where I think a lot about the character before selecting a material. For example, for a very boring or stiff character I might use a stiff material (like corrugated plastic), but for a zany, expressive character I might use something very flexible like a piece of craft foam or...
I've posted this in a few other places online, but I'm in the final stages of relaunching PuppetBuilding.com. I've been rebuilding the site from scratch and it will be back online if not tonight, then sometime tomorrow (I'll post a separate thread when it's back up and running).
I'm looking to...
I'm in the final stages of preparing to re-launch PuppetBuilding.com. One of the features I'm looking in to adding on some pages are really nicely formatted and attractive listings of puppets for sale on ebay and etsy. There are lots of ways to do this easily with ebay, but when it comes to Etsy...
It was, but I kind of got buried with some freelance work last week. So it will be this week instead. Sorry for the delay. If it's any compensation, I'm making some changes to the site that I think will make it really worthwhile.
Without going in to specific details here in a public forum, I do know that Michele has had some turmoil in her life in recent months. I haven't communicated with her in awhile either, but if she isn't responding to emails I suspect it probably has something to do with the circumstances I...
I don't know if anyone else on the forum has reported this already, but Beaker's Ode To Joy video on YouTube has been nominated for a Webby for best music video!
You can vote for it and in other categories online at pv.webbyawards.com.
Last year the Webbys say one award was decided by a...
Actually, I don't think they are. I'm pretty sure they pre-date the Kermit replica and they were taken from a plush toy Kermit. I think that head pattern has been floating around for at least 7 or 8 years.
I think Folkmanis are the only "commercially" made puppets I've ever used professionally. Some of them are really well designed, as I'm sure everybody already knows. I've rebuilt a couple to offer better control; redoing their mouths or adding a rod or two.
I'd second what Jinx said; it really is hard to make specific recommendations without having all the technical details. I am far from an audio expert, but in my experience the problem with "head set" mics is that they can be knocked and get in the way. Mounting a mic on a headband or baseball...
We were definitely not working in Flash. You could output your work as an editable Flash file though, hence the name "Flash Puppet". I believe there was also some kind of custom driver or utility that was used to capture video, process it and send it to the application, but the programmer was...
There were no special peripherals, except we sometimes used joysticks for scenes where characters had to walk a lot. Mostly we used flat, cut-out puppets very similar to regular shadow puppets and a technology called colour blob tracking. The puppets were made out of card stock (heavy paper) and...
I worked on/for a project a couple years ago that did a pilot for a U.S. cable channel called "Suzie Shadow". We developed a system called (imaginatively enough) Flash Puppet. The idea was to create shadow puppet-like animation in real-time that could then be rendered out as Flash.
Show never...
I don't know specifically what model(s) Henson uses, but pretty much any professional lav mic mounted on a headband would work. I'm a fan of Shure microphones, but everyone has their own preferences.
Good, professional wireless lav mics usually start around $300 for the bodypack, mic and...
That's a sort of fake leather/vinyl material. It's fairly common. They used to sell it (or at least something very similar to it) in the fabric shops along Queen Street West in Toronto. If it's the stuff I'm thinking of it has a bit of a stretch to it.
I was going to suggest checking out Cafepress too, or similar sites like Zazzle. Any time I've needed custom embroidered patches I've had them professionally made and it is expensive.
You can actually hand embroider your own patches with a needle and embroidery floss. If you browse some of the...
PuppetBuilding.com got compromised by hackers who flooded the site with links to porn and gambling sites. The spam got so overwhelming that I had to take the whole thing offline.
I've been working on getting it back up and running for several months now (I'm actually working on it today!). It...
