What are the Pros and Cons of Latex Puppets?

The most obvious "con" of a latex puppet is potential latex allergy. I don't know what Axtell's puppets are actually cast from, but be sure to test yourself against latex allergy before you drop the cash! -Gordon

Potentially Opening my own Puppet Theater

Its a bit boring, but I'd say your first step might be drafting up a 3-5 year business plan. At least, the bank's gonna want to see one if you go to them for money... even if you've got collateral up the wahzzooo. And be optimistic. They like to think there'll be good returns within the first...

    What gives you motivation/inspiration?

In general I have an unnatural drive to build things. Its almost like a drug. And its not even that I want what it is that I'm building when its done. I just want to make. Inspiration for TVTV comes from the desperate desire to outlast my mortal coil... yes, it really is like a mid-life...

    Any Tips for Arm Fatigue?

Arm fatigue: We aren't the greatest at rehearsing, so we rely quite a bit on breaks and yoga-like stretching before we start filming. One of our puppeteers is a yoga instructor, so its very handy! I'm not one for doing live shows, so that's outside of my knowledge base. -Gordon

    Any Tips for Arm Fatigue?

Chairs...official Muppet rolly chairs. Here's an image of the one Dave Goelz used on-set when filming Extrememmakeover home edition: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3308475&id=637074117&ref=fbx_alb I saw the underside of it. It had no less than eight casters inside the bendy-board...

Potentially Opening my own Puppet Theater

In this economy, what do you have to lose? ;) -Gordon P.S. Seriously, I think you have a great idea.

    Antron bolt purchase

I'll let you know. I don't have much choice at this point... I either use it or I don't. I got a job to complete. And I can't afford buying any more. So cross your fingers... and hope its not a bumpy ride! :) -Gordon

    Bunsen Honeydew mouth

When I built the head that became Esmerelda for TVTV, I tried to make a "pretty" mouth because the puppet was originally for something else. I failed. After messing about trying to make a hard palette to move that slit in the foam and then covering it with fleece, the resulting mass of foam...

    Antron bolt purchase

Answers: The bolt I got says it has 51 yards on it. I don't know if that's standard. When I spoke to the guy at the mill, he told me the bolt would have 40 yards on it... so score! I don't have the address with me, but the mill is Hampshire Textiles in Laconia, NH. You should be able to...

Anyone Performing in Professional Puppet Shows?

I've eschewed the live performance route in favor of strictly video presentations. And I've eschewed doing kids' shows in favor of providing sorely needed puppetry for grown-ups. Not that I have anything at all against all you folks out there who DO kid's shows or family shows... I like it all...

    Antron bolt purchase

I ordered a single bolt from the mill and it arrived yesterday. So I'm pretty much rollin' in it. I guess the mill separated out my bolt and gave GA Stage a truncated order? -Gordon

    Increase in Commercial Television Puppetry

Which is it, Pantene hair care that has a big pink kangaroo puppet as a mascot? I've noticed a spike in the amount of puppetry too. Lets hope its a positive trend. On the other hand, I did notice a disturbing trend a while back that had to do with using the term "muppet" (small m) as a...

    Puppet Eyes yay!

Having done more resin casting than I care to admit, I have to say that they're using acrylic, so that's good. Beware of eyes cast in urethane. If they're white, they WILL yellow over time. Most acrylics will hold their color if not exposed unduly to sunlight. Nice stuff. I hope they can make...

Are the values of Muppet Sideshow Busts going up?

I have a Gonzo... looks like it was a good buy since I can't find another one for sale anywhere! -G:concern:

Are the values of Muppet Sideshow Busts going up?

Okay, so I was curious and went to ebay today to look at what the Muppet Busts were going for now. Holy cow! I know... the pricing on ebay is crazy inflated, but some of them are listed for $200! Are they THAT desirable or rare? I mean, I bought mine juts because I like Muppets. And...

    New puppet for comic con

I WISH I was going to San Diego. Its always a great time. We're still waiting to find out if Dragon Con will give us a table! We're #6 on the waiting list... and last year they let in 7! -Gordon

    ANY other antron sources?

I got that same notification. The word "expecting" is in quotes... which means they probably don't have a firm commitment from the mill. And that 14 yards... that was my order that I cancelled. I'd love to order two bolts... but crimeny! I'm hardly going to have room for ONE bolt in my...

    Inside the puppet heads

I don't know about "random" pieces of foam, but you can always clip and shape "head stuffers" from sheet or block foam and insert it to keep the head shape as you like it. I've recently just gotten down to making custom head inserts for many of my puppets and it makes a world of difference...

    ANY other antron sources?

I'm basically just going straight to the fabric mill. It won't be cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't have too much choice at the moment. And frankly, I have no idea how many puppets will come out of a 45 yard roll... but I have a hankerin' to find out! :) -Gordon

    ANY other antron sources?

I started building puppets with the old Muppet fleece about two years before it was dropped. Dwayne is about, what, 5+ years old? I'm not exactly certain. I started building the puppet that would become Dwayne for a completely different project and stopped before he was even 1/3 finished...
