I can't wait to read this book. Love the blog; there's so much genuine affection for Jim Henson's world, for the people who work in it, for the Muppets... The book can't help but be amazing, with that kind of attitude behind it.
I adore the third entry down, where he talks about interviewing...
What happened to him? Well, he got knocked over by a Christmas wreath and an old man's ill-will, he got smushed by a door during a pig's big diva entrance at breakfast, he...I'm pretty sure he got something heavy dropped on him at some point...who knows what all else. The little dude probably...
I agree, B. I refuse to be optimistic about a movie until I have a very good reason to be. The odds are just too far against it living up to the series. But what I DO like is the fact that there are Fraggle puppets in the world again, and three of the original performers are apparently...
I've always wondered about Kermit's comments about having to learn "40 different ways to act sad" or whatever. Is he just being funny or is Steve subtly complaining about Kermit's gloomy role? The world may never know....
Oh man, I hadn't even thought about Labyrinth for this thread. Can I just quote the whole thing? So much of that movie crept into my personal phrase book when I was a kid. Every time I watch it now, I have a moment where I'm like, "Oh, THAT'S why I say that!" How about those Helping Hands...
Hahaha, I'd never seen that before! It's terrific. Steve is so doggone good at playing that side of Kermit, when he gets the chance. It's funny, I seem to remember that back in the 90s (I think?) people complained that Kermit flew off the handle too much/quickly. And now we seem to be...
One of my favorite parts of TM was Kermit arguing with the others about kidnapping Jack Black. That was pretty close to old-school yellin'-at-the-crazies, there. Could have used a good scene of him being driven to distraction by a potential act in the telethon, though. I know...Gonzo could have...
Cons: My six-year-old never ever wants to watch the movie because she's scared of giant Animal. This is not the movie's fault.
Pros: Everything else!
:-D
Actually, no, I do have one other con. I can't stand "Never Before, Never Again." I don't like the song, I don't like the fantasy...
I've only seen the movie once, and that was a few years ago, so I can't really comment on that. But I can say that I love the blooper reel with fierce, fierce love. :) "Thank you, I've been practicing...."
Interesting. Everyone I know who saw the movie--most of who were casual Muppet fans--loved it. Given the moderate box office success and the positive reception from critics, I would say that your experience isn't indicative of how the movie was received in general.
Anyway, like Dr. Tooth...
Or, all the movies are non-canon and "just movies." Which is the explanation I would go with. But still, I was all prepared to hate Walter (the interloper!) but instead I just loved him. I think he's a great character, and there are a lot of ways they can work him into future productions.
"I SPY because I CARE!"
"Well, I care too!"
"Well WHY don't you say so?!"
"I just did!"
"ALL RIGHT!"
"AAAA!"
"AAAA!"
I just love that whole exchange, beginning to end. Poor Gregory Hines just wanted his skates back. :)
"Sorry. It's sleepy time." XD
What fascinates me is that when he says "ho," Kermit mouths "ho" instead of "hello." That puppet lip synching thing is really a way of life for them, isn't it?
I love any time Piggy uses the phrase "my frog." As in, "You can't hurt my frog!" or "My frog turned on me."
And I just watched TMTM and remembered another favorite Piggy line. "Oh, dear lord. Not jogging." :)
You know what that means? If someone at Henson has seen Mup's tweets (which they obviously have), then they may very well have followed the link and checked out our site. I don't know if that's thrilling or scary. :concern:
