Also, I got the fact that Brando's bit-part in "Superman" was a cameo from various websites and interviews with him. I've been a fan of the movie for many years.
Sorry, I thought you were refering to the fact that, because Muppet Beach Party and Unpigged had no copyright issues in 1993, copyright wouldn't be an issue now.
Things seemed to have changed lately tho. When Muppet Beach Party was released, we could get complete Muppet Show episodes of video shortly after. Unedited ones too. It's only been more recently that copyright has been a major problem for Muppet releases.
Sorry, but that's kinda missing the point of what the conversation was about initially. I was just showing a way that movie's, even back in the 70's, used well known names to promote a movie that starred relatively unknown actors. Whether it be a cameo or not, movies have always and will always...
There's one animated sketch that I remember seeing again and again in the 80's and it was one with a VERY 80's song and something about a kid not being allowed to play baseball with the rest of the kids but finally they relent and he helps them win the game. Does that ring any bells with anyone?
I remember seeing the premier of that and was waiting desperate to see Kermit. When the rest of the gang read the letters from kids and Robin reads "We will miss you, Jim Henson" I sobbed my heart out. I still can't watch it properly. I am glad to know that I'm not the only one!
Thanks for the great info Aleal. That really helps me understand where this new show is coming from. I guess I just feel (selfishly) upset that it is no longer aimed at us English speaking fans and I feel a little left out.
Considering he was paid $3.7million for less than 10 minutes and the movie was over 2 hours long, I'd still consider it a cameo. Either way, noone would consider that kind of money to a so called "celebrity" cameo nowadays. That's what we were talking about right?
That's the difference then I guess. If you include merchandising and video releases, the early Muppet movies would outshine anything the Muppets have been involved in since Christmas Carol. :)
I don't know. Even movies back then relied on celeb cameos. Marlon Brando's cameo in Superman made him more highly paid than any of the other cast, and he only appeared on screen for a few minutes.
Unless you use people who will never age and always be at the same height of popularity, a movie will automatically date over a number of years. It can't be helped.
