Wow! I'd never guess this was your first puppet! It looks great! I did a little digging, and found a picture of my first puppets (from 12 years ago). As you can see, your's is head and shoulders above my first attempts!

I wish you had -- then I could have said:
You know the guy that smacked the idiot that got ran over by the EPCOT double-decker bus and then got sued for assault? I know him!
;)

There was some substance -- and I can't for the life of me remember what it is -- but I remember reading about a paste of some sort that can be painted onto foam rubber to make it rigid in some places so you can add an eye mechanism, but didn't add much weight to it or disrupt the flexibility of...
It boggles my mind that an American company (Disney) can own the licensing for another country's police. I could just imagine if everytime you wanted an LA cop in a movie, you had to get clearance from Rupert Murdoch.

I usually make a little Sculpey model of the head... actually, i made them about 8 years ago and just use them as a reference now. That helps me tremendously when making the full-size foam version.
Then, I take 1/2 inch foam and make the basic shapes, using wedges and darts to make a full-size...
I think whoever bought that, got it for a steal. And, unfortunately, I'd say $104.20 still isn't worth the time and effort to rebuild it. I say you should build another puppet and when you put it up on ebay, e-mail him about it so he can bid on it.
Steve
Thanks for reminding me about this. ;)
I suppose I should come up with some kind of proposal about a panel, huh? The initial thought was that as cartoonists, a lot of us have expanded our work to include puppetry. How have we used our 2D skills to influence our 3D work, and vice versa?
I...
Yeah. I got the movies working yesterday. Apparently, the site where they're hosted changed their IP address and I wasn't aware of it.
The puppet is the same size as the one in my avatar. The fingers are posable, though the arms are a little different. It seems like with each puppet I build...
Here's the finished puppet:

A good place to look for this type of monitor is -- believe it or not -- the supermarket at Christmas time. I picked up 4 monitors like this for $19.95 apiece.
I haven't actually used them, yet, however... I gotta make a puppet movie!
Steve
I'm going to bump this up. Who's interested in attending San Diego Comic-Con this year? If I can get four people I'll try to get a panel for all of us. I think it's truly a niche industry. At worst, we can have another puppeteer dinner. ;)

The eyes are made from 4-inch Plastic Christmas tree ornaments (the clear ones they sell at Michael's and come already halved so you can put things in them). I melted one edge on each half at about a 30-degree angle so they'd wrap around his head. I epoxied a binder clip on the back so they...
Well, I finally started putting together that puppet I've been talking about for the last five months. I managed to complete the head today. Enjoy. The two movies are the same. The .mov file works on macs and .avi file works on PCs .. or so I'm told...
Didn't the George Reeves "Superman" TV series in 1955 use chromakey? I know that the flying suit was more of a grey color since it was too close in color to the bluescreen.
I believe that greenscreens came later (the 80s, maybe?) and that computer compositing is what really perfected the...
Does anyone know the target age group for the initial run of Fraggle Rock?
I'm not so interested in what ages it appealed to (like all of us), but the age group (10-12 year olds, maybe?) targeted during the pitch.
Thanks!
Steve
