A friend of mine and I made three puppet tests last night. I ended up posting two of them to youtube here:

and

The third, however is a little on the mature side (we lip-synched to a song with...
I'll post another one in a couple of days. I have the clip figured out... I just forgot to record it last night. It'll be a very dramatic clip, however. ;)
Steve
Okay, I posted mine. It may be a little off synch-wise, because for some reason, my webcam didn't record the audio so I had to dub it on. Not having a visual/audio synch point was a little tough. ;)
Still, I recorded it about 15 times before I for this one, which turned out pretty well, all...
Well, I think we ought to post an audio file that we match off of. I just got back from Blockbuster, and apparently, they no longer carry Mary Poppins at this location. I have a friend that owns it, though, so I'll check into it.
Steve
Honestly, I think the song took too long to get started. The dancing was fine, but I kept waiting for the song to start. The lip synching was great, though I'd have made him focus on something, rather than sort of staring 3/4 off camera.
I suppose I shouldn't be too quick to criticize...
It'd be cool if someone could post a mp3 or a wav file with the sound bite. I also think 10 seconds is plenty, but 20 works for me. I guess I'll go rent Mary Poppins today. I even have an idea for mine when it's my turn....
Steve
It's all about the darts.
All you have to do is cut away triangles from the two open ends and glue them back together. Maybe 2 inch at the base up to a 2 1/2 inch point for each triangle. I'd do one at each seam, glue it together and see what it looks like. It should suck the butt in to make...
There are these plastic globes that people can use to replace the big yard like fixtures (they're usually made of glass, but they do make a plastic version). It's like the one at the top of the Sesame Street sign. They're about 10 inches around and come molded in smoky white.
I cut out the...
I've never had much luck with spray adhesive. I use contact cement for most things like that because once it's stuck, it'd pretty much stuck.
On the downside, once it's stuck, it's pretty much stuck.
Also, it's messy. That would probably be a better material to use when building it...
It just makes him look more like Harrison Ford. ;)
Actually, it's not that noticable unless you're right up next him... or at least, that's what I tell myself.

Well, it's fixed. I think I can get a few more uses out of this puppet now. Aside from a small tear in his lip, it's hard to tell I had to do anything to the puppet, even though I replaced the entire mouth palette as well as his lower jaw foam.
Thanks, guys! I was convinced I'd either have to...
Well, so far so good. I managed to remove the original mouth palette without destroying too much of the foam or the fabric. I'll build a new one tomorrow and hopefully be able to re-install it. I should be able to retrofit a little more flexibility into the design with the thinner gasket rubber...
The puppet in my avatar -- Mayberry -- is due for a rebuild, but that most likely will be a month or so away. The main reason for the rebuild is that the grip broke about ten minutes after I put him together two years ago, and I've had to make due with weaving my fingers over and under the...
I knew a puppeteer that used one of those baby ear cleaner things to blow the flocking onto a puppet. It looked good to me, but I don't know how it compares to a correctly-flocked puppet. He said that a flocking wand was basically the same device, only a lot more expensive.
Steve
I don't know... does Sculpt or Coat make foam rigid? It seems to me there was some kind of substance either the Muppets used or a fan replica used on Gonzo's eye mechanism to keep his skull from caving in when you activated the eye mechanism.
I could be imagining it, though. ;)
Steve
Here's the way I do it --
I cut each hand out of 1-inch foam, trimming it until it looks like a hand.
Then, I take an electric turkey knife and split it into two halves (not two two-fingered hands, two four-fingered half-inch thick hands).
I take some 16-guage copper wire and wind it...
