    Ray Charles dies at 73

So long Ray Charles While the rest of the country is busy mourning the passing of Ronald Reagan, Ray Charles left us too. Got to sing a bunch of times on Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, especially his touching version of "Bein' Green" with Kermit. Thanks Ray. Been a pleasure.

Favorite Alive and Not Alive skits

Yes, Dantecat, Chris Cerf is one of the nicest men you could ever want to meet. His working relationship with Jim goes back to 1972, when they did the "Count It Higher" skit. Chris did the voice and supplied the music, and Jim did the puppetry. Chris was also instrumental in developing and...

This thread is brought to you by the letter U!

That was Smokey Robinson, who had a hit with his group the Miracles in 1963, "You Really Got a Hold On Me", later covered by the Beatles. :sing:

Favorite Alive and Not Alive skits

You're ali-i-i-i-ve! A horse is alive too! I love it at the end when they finish singing, all the puppets crowd in front of the stage, and the horse is shaking his butt at us with this HUGE grin on his face! I got to meet Chris Cerf earlier this year, and he loved working with Jim, because...

    Pick your Pet!

Yep, that was him. :) The title cards they used for all the game shows were usually done by Jim, who studied graphic arts in college. Gotta hand it to Jim for using all his puppets he had before Sesame Street. You never know when they might come in handy.

    Favorite AIR skits

air for sale Well even as we speak, you can go to Mexico City, where the air is even worse than the United States and go to bars for a hit of fresh air. No joke! Just like we have Starbucks, they have little shops where you can get a liter of fresh bottled air to breathe. No kidding! Tokyo has...

    Inchworm

colors, etc. Jerry Nelson was the Inchworm, and Fran Brill was the bug. Since at the time we still had a black and white TV the colors escape me. I'm really stretching here, but the Inchworm could have been green with black stripes, and the bug could have been blue (an early Twiddlebug, maybe?)...

    Pick your Pet!

all the gripping stuff The best I can remember, it was Betty Lou, not Prairie Dawn, who was the contestant. Betty Lou was the same pinkish color as Prairie, but had a blue dress, blond hair with braids and ribbons, and was performed by Frank Oz in his high Miss Piggy voice. The three choices...

    Inchworm

Inchworm song Okee doke, the Inchworm SONG was done on Sesame Street circa 1971, done on a set that looks like a garden with the Inchworm counting the marigolds Two and two are four Four and four are eight Eight and eight are sixteen Sixteen and sixteen are thirty-two and a bug-like...

    Oscar's Softer side

Oscar can be nice Once back in the late 70's, Maria and a Muppet lady went out somewhere, and Oscar was asked to watch the lady's daughter. The girl was painfully shy, and anxious over being separated from her mother. But somehow she really warmed up to Oscar, and Oscar showed genuine affection...

What do you do with a pet?

You pet him! What do you always do with a pet? You hug him, but don't slug him Squeeze him, but don't tease him You love him, but don't shove him You give him water to drink, sometimes a bath in the sink! You give him food to eat, and sometimes a treat You walk with him, and you talk...

    Up, Up and Away

One cool Muppet clip that hasn't been shown in decades was Betty Lou and her friend Jack (looks like Roosevelt Franklin with different colored hair) singing this great version of the Fifth Dimension classic. Jim really did have a fine voice. Betty Lou's friend Billy invites her to fly in his...

    Sesame Song about Pockets

some other scenes Some other scenes from the film- a guy at a fruit market trying to carry a ton of apples in both arms, but he doesn't get very far. But pockets are convenient for holding an apple or pair. (That fits into the lyrics somewhere) A scene of a kangaroo with her baby peeking out...
