Monster C
A few of the monsters are lined up on the brick wall.
From right to left, they are:
1) Brown Grover
2) A brown monster that looks like a giant powder puff
3) Beautiful Day
4) Cookie Monster (voiced by Carroll Spinney this time)
5) A tall green monster used on the Christmas...
stilll I'm sad
Instead of any actual skits, I'm just sad over the loss of the four J's.
Jim Henson
Joe Raposo
Jon Stone
Jeff Moss
I'm sort of grateful Sesame Street is still around, but the death of each of the above makes me yearn a little more for the good ol' days. But the joy...
playing cat and mouse
That cat and mouse cartoon actually goes way back to the beginning- it's been around for as long as I can remember. It doesn't teach too much besides the mouse imitating the rhythms the cat makes, but still nice to watch.
creepy!
This was the most we've ever seen Bert and Ernie arguing with each other. Ernie does eat Bert's cookie, and Bert retaliates by poking Ernie.
Ernie: "Stop poking me, Bert!"
Bert: "POKE! POKE POKE! YOU COOKIE THIEF!!!"
Maria does a swell job of depicting their grim existences if...
another dated piece
During Season 2, Sesame Street expanded its agenda to include identifying numbers up to 20. So there's a film of a boss in his office sending his employee (our very own Joe Raposo!) out to find a 20. "That's a 2 and a 0 together!"
They skip numbers 1 trough 10, assuming...
Ernie's laundry basket
This skit opens with Bert complaining on the huge mess in the room asking Ernie "When are you gonna clean this up??!!!"
Ernie: "Tuesday after next, Bert!"
Some other things Ernie packs:
Some storybooks, so he can read to Rubber Duckie
His ukelele, (not the same...
Hi Billy B-B
This might be quite a stretch of the imagination, but I think Billy B-B said "Hi, I'm Billy B-B, and I'm Bi!" And my seven-year-old brain interpreting that to mean bi-lingual, so Billy could speak both English and Spanish. Cool! In today's society, "Bi" could have other...
Q & A Time
This skit must have been from Season 1 or 2, since I can remember it from way back when.
The music? FANTASTIC!!!! Nice jazzy instrumental line-up of piano, organ, guitar, bass, and drums. The music is basically one riff, which they repeat four times. But the perfect music to score...
For Daffyfan
Hey Daffyfan. No, I swear on a stack of Bibles this clip was from Season One, since Ernie has on his orange/purple/multicolor striped shirt. Starting in Season Two he was dressed in his familiar red/blue shirt with the yellow collar and cuffs. So the clip with the Count was a...
For SesameMike
Hey dude! Yes, that clip was from Seattle. There's a lady in a very loud 70's-era brown and white dress getting on (Kid narration:"Hey, what a neat mirror. Oh, I get it! It lets him see people running for the bus!") and you can see right on the front of the bus SEATTLE TRANSIT...
Another dated thing from Sesame Street is any clip with cars. I remember the one about traffic lights, and you see all the cars stopping at the red light, and 9 times out of 10 they were GM, Ford, or Chrysler. Apart from the occassional Volkswagen or super-sporty Italian job, the Big 3 were...
Going Bananas over Sesame
I'll let you in on a little secret. When I was little, I LOVED bananas. I could eat a bunch a day no sweat. Until I saw Ernie pouring gravy over the bananas and passing it off as chocolate ice cream.
Then there's the clip of our painter friend (Paul Benedict of...
Long Live Jerry
I am fortunate enough to have about 30 seconds of Little Jerry and Comapny singing "Mad!" which at first is like a contradiction in terms. ******-off hippies?
But that was one of my all-time faves that I was lucky enough to catch off our PBS station back in the early 90's. PBS...
Happy 35th
I feel especially proud since I was old enough (barely) to have been around since Day One (although I was still in my playpen and drooling all over myself on that day in 1969). But the best thing my parents did on that day was sit me down in front of that big old black-and-white...
cool tunes
There was also Bob singing "Good Morning Starshine" with a bunch of hippie Muppets. I thought it was really cool the way they sang it against a black background, and then at the end the lights fade up to give the illusion of dawn breaking. Bob points out to them, "Look! It's the...
scary monsters
Yes, it's true those monsters from Season 1 were not a cute bunch. Jim's main partner-in-crime was puppet builder Don Sahlin, who shared Jim's taste in creating gruesome looking monsters.
If you're lucky enough to find it, there's a book out there on the history of the Muppet...
Grungetta lives
I actually got to meet Pam Arciero, the Muppeteer who performs Grungetta. This season she got to do a few more appearances, but is more busy these days helping with a new season of Between the Lions. In between performing, she also hosts workshops for those who really want to...
Paul Benedict, Rennaissance Man
Earlier this year Paul was here in New Jersey at Drew University performing Shakespeare. He was just a support player, drawing no attention to himself, but helped in the productions of Twelfth Night and As You Like It.
'Scuse me, whist I paint a 3!
Yes I know!
Probably around 1974. For the Yes skit, the gorilla sees the girl (looks a lot like Bernadette Peters, but don't quote me). She's sitting on a park bench, and he keeps offering bananas from his lunch box. The musical accompaniment was "The Entertainer", which was a big hit at the...
for Muppetdude
Richard Hunt performed Aristotle. His voice was something like Scooter's, very smooth and quiet. I think it was nice for Richard to have a calm character in contrast to the psychotic extremes of Don Music and Forgetful Jones. As I remember, if Ari had to get up and leave for some...
