I also have a copy of the original version of the 1969 Sesame Street sales pitch film.
What I don't understand is why SS keeps referring to that version as the one from the first season, when obviously the season 2 version of Ernie (with shorter hair, smaller pupils, and a red nose) is used.

Not quite: this appears to be the game show that "had no ending" where a monster chose a cookie rather than a trip to Hawaii. Sesame Street liked the idea of a "cookie monster", so they kept the character, and changed the puppet to the one we know today.

According to MuppetWiki (and someone who was apparently there), the puppet is referred to on the set as FilFil, not to be confused with Filfil (note the capital F).
