I'm sure younger generations will learn about Pluto as the first known example of objects of its type, and also the history behind it. It definitely won't fade into obscurity no matter what its eventual designation.

I doubt it. I don't think Cape Doom is a real place, and I also don't think that they actually shot on location for any of the Cape Doom scenes. It's just a random beach with a lighthouse that they decided would be a nice place for an alien spacecraft to land.
