I made a Crow from MST3K out of the same found objects that they used for the show (Bowling pin, tupperware, hockey mask, soap dish, etc.) I don't know if that's really what you were thinking of.
Oh, and I was one of the early people to do this -- not when it became all the rage a few years...
It costs about $20. So, for $20 you have the peace of mind to know that you could back your position up in court if you had to. The way that copyrighting fir us little guys works is that should someone rip off your designs, you'd have to prove that they had access to your work to copy and that...
You know those plastic globes they use for outdoor lighting (sort of like the light part of the "Sesame Street" sign)? I used one of those and cut out the shape with a Dremel.
It comes in milky white, but I painted a flat white on the reverse side so that the pink fleece didn't show through...
I've been toying with the idea of making a new puppet movie (Those of you unfamiliar with my old puppet movie, click here).
Anyway, unlike my previous endeavor, I'd like to build a puppet-friendly elevated set. I've seen in various documentaries stage hands on puppet shoots easily removing...
I was told by a lady at a costume shop that the cheapie synthetic wigs should work for most puppets. The only problem is that they're almost impossible to style -- or even comb. But she let me in on a little secret: When the synthetic wigs at the costume shop needed to be combed out, they spray...
What if you got some of those little black plastic oval nose things they sell at the craft stores? They have a post and everything. If you got two that were about 3/4 inch long and put them on at an angle, that might work. You could even paint them white if you wanted and add pupils.

Also, in "Muppets From Space," my friend Ken swears you can see Dave Goelz opperating Gonzo during the studio interview with Miss Piggy. I haven't personally seen this instance, but he says you can see his entire face as Gonzo walks in front of Miss Piggy's podium.

I know in The Muppet Movie's Full Screen version, you can see a couple of heads in the close-up shots during the final confrontation with Doc Hopper in the western ghost town. Also, throughout the movie you can see Kermit's "asparagussy" parts.

This is just a theory, but I think that the eyes themselves must be made from 1/8 - 1/4 thick foam, either covered or dyed to match Floyd's head. Basically, they're made up of two tubes that will hold their shape in the open position, but easily will compress with little or no pressure.

I'll be there. And I'm on the main floor of con this year (part of keenspot 1450), so anyone at the con, please stop by! Just look for the puppets!

I drill a hole in the end of the dowls (which are about 6 inches long) and I epoxy the dowels in place. The other thing I didn't mention is that I attached the arms to the body with the "pin" end of a doll joint. Inserted into a hole in the body, I cap off the other end with a friction-fit piece...
I found these great 1/8 diameter skewers at Smart and Final, though I've seen them at Savon and other drug and grocery stores too. They're made of metal and are used to roast hot dogs or marshmellows on campfires.
They come with a loop at one end and are about 18 inches long. I add a 1/2 inch...
I was sort of wondering the same thing. Since I used skewers for the arm rods, I'm sure that my puppets would never make it on a plane anymore... and I'm not 100% sure that putting him in a regular suitcase would be the safest place either (just see what happened in Toy Story II).
I know...
