Great Book especially if you're just breaking into puppet building. It doesn't have patterns but it a definitely valuable resource. Between The Foam Book, Puppet Mania and this forum, you're well on your way!
I'm not sure if thats what they're called, but I'm looking for a basic pattern for a "Practical Hands" puppet body. (Thats what The Foam Book calls it, anyway.)
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about. A "practical hands" puppet is one which uses the puppeteers own hand...
Old school puppet stuff, huh? Sounds like some of that secret Black Book muppet builders stuff to me.
Maybe he puts a weight at the end of the nose to make the foam jiggle.
Ravage, do you know who built Nigel?
The nose also kind of jiggles. I'm thinking its a material, like the stuff those 25 cent sticky hands are made of. Because his nose wobbles even after he's moving. Does that make sense?
Whats going on with BSL? Most of the video links are broken and when I emailed Scarecroe, no response! I'm dying to see some of the stuff described there, but all the links are broken!
Any idea as to why? Does Scarecroe post on the boards?
Then click on this link, okeh. Its the 3rd picture with Kermit in the foreground and Nigel in the background.

If you watched the Muppets Tonight then you know about Nigel the green control room manager with the floppy nose.
Anyone know what kind of material makes his nose flop like that? I've seen many puppets with ears and noses that flop around with movement. How is this achieved?
When I say powered movement, I mean it in the same way one would say a car has power steering. I mean, a puppet with an extra huge jaw could be manipulated with one hand if it had the proper mechanics.
Has anyone ever seen a puppet that had powered movement in it?
Sweetums is definitely loaded with RC elements. Remember that this type of stuff was readily available to animatronics developers eventhough it was hard to come by in your conventional RC shop.
I'm pretty sure they have different Sweetums rigs to do different tasks. All with their animatronic...
I know puppet props are usually made. Is there any place where props for puppets can be purchased? I need an electric guitar and I don't exactly have the skills to build my own Janice sized Les paul! :flirt:
Its a bit of a late response, but saying that about Jim is like saying "Anyone playing rock music is just taggin after what Dylan and BB King started!"
Jim influenced the world of puppetry so greatly that his style became a standard.
and in following alf forms of puppetry before creating...
I'm with Buck on that one, okeh.
Unbelievable! Puppeteering is about the art, not about who does it better. If we share techniques and ideas we're all able to express our creativity in a better way. I've had chats with many Henson builders and they answered all my questions without hesitaton...
