A lot of Muppets wore different stuff, like Scooter's in Elton John's episode, Cowboy Kermit, Tarzan Animal from Crocodile Rock, Elton John Sam Eagle, Sparkle Purple Tux Floyd, heck, there's so many great costumes.

He's not being phased out. Infact, he has been on some talk shows as of lately and started NASCAR recently. He had a decent sized chunk in the new film, is with the gang in commercials and on special appearances, and was in all versions of the Toyota Highlander commercial. He's not being phased out.
