Definitely Boober. Second is Uncle Traveling Matt and third is Gonzo. I also like Gunge and I don't know if Waldorf counts but Dave's been doing him longer than Jim ever did so...
He's one of my favorite puppeteers, so it would be hard for me to choose between his characters. In the end it would be down to Cookie Monster or Sam the Eagle for me. Honestly though I wish Yoda was an option, I know he's not a "Muppet" but I love him to bits and even built my own puppet of him.
Here's my list. It only includes the theatrical films, and I left off the two Sesame Street ones because I didn't like them and haven't seen them since I was very young.
- The Muppet Movie - 4 stars
- The Great Muppet Caper - 4 stars
- The Muppets Take Manhattan - 3.5 stars
- The Muppet...
Best songs:
- "Rainbow Connection"
- "Movin' Right Along"
- "Happiness Hotel"
- "Together Again"
- "One More Sleep Til Christmas"
- "Marley and Marley"
- "Shiver My Timbers"
- "Pictures in My Head"
Worst songs:
- "Man or Muppet" (sorry)
- Tex Richman's rap song
I consider Fraggle Rock to be its own continuity, separate from the Muppets, whereas within the Muppets universe Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street are just fictional shows that happen to cross over in a TV special made by and starring The Muppets.
I was six. It started with Sesame Street, then I got into Fraggle Rock, the Muppet movies, and The Muppet Show. By the time I was eight I was such a big fan I was already watching Jim Henson's weird and Muppetless films like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
I doubt I have ten I dislike enough, so I'll just tell you which ones I hate instead. Pepe most of all, followed by ALL the Jim Henson Hour Muppets: Digit, Waldo, Leon, Clifford, the Solid Foam band, everybody (I didn't mind Chip the IT Guy in the 2015 show, can't remember how he was on TJHH)...
I definitely except him as an alien, and prefer that origin over him being a "whatever". Plus, I'm pretty sure Muppets from Space has never officially been stated to be non-canon, and has even been acknowledged a few times (ignore that episode of the 2015 show where he mentions his mother, since...
They're definitely not related. Gonzo is an alien, while Grover is a monster (a common species in both Sesame Street and the Muppets). Just because they're blue doesn't mean anything, and they've never even appeared together in anything except for maybe A Muppet Family Christmas.
Underrated: Muppets from Space. It's funny, heartwarming, and provides a great origin story for Gonzo. I have no idea why so many people dislike it. Thankfully Gonzo said one line in The Muppets to confirm the movie is still canon ("People of earth!" when he blows up his business). Overrated...
My guilty pleasure might be Muppet Treasure Island, because I can tell it's not very good compared to some of the other movies, but at the same time I like it probably more than I should. (When will we see Big Fat Ugly Bug-Faced Baby Eating O'Brien again?) Ditto for Muppets from Space, though...
Why don't we all list our own picks for top 5 best/worst Muppets now? I'll start:
Best
1. Rowlf
2. Kermit
3. Statler/Waldorf
4. Gonzo
5. Sam the Eagle
Worst
1. Pepe
2. Clifford
3. Digit
4. Waldo C. Graphic
5. Walter (I like him... but oh boy is he boring )
I'm not sure if he counts as a Muppet (since he's a man in a suit and clearly not a puppet), but the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (or "the Third Ghost" as I always call him) in The Muppet Christmas Carol scared the ever-loving crap out of me the first time I watched it. I was only about six...
There have been some great Muppet films. And then there is the "Terrible TV Movie Trilogy", by which of course I am referring to those abominations Kermit's Swamp Years , It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie , and The Muppets' Wizard of Oz . I've seen all three of these...
I haven't seen the first three seasons in a while, but all of the episodes, I'd say my least favorite is probably the Star Wars one. I absolutely love Star Wars, but I feel it really doesn't go well with the Muppets (even if some of the films had some very Muppet-like creatures - and of course...
It's on Disney+ now. Well, most of it. The Brooke Shields and Chris Langham episodes are gone, and a few other episodes had songs cut from them IIRC :sigh:.
Of the theatrical films, probably The Muppets because of the heavy focus on the uninteresting human characters, and because I didn't like the new voices for all the (formerly) Frank Oz characters. If you include made-for-TV and direct-to-video films, I'd definitely go with The Muppets' Wizard of...
