I said this before: the film would be eaten alive in summer. The only good weekend would have been when the Smurfs was released, that end of July period. And The Smurfs was released... so that wouldn't have worked.
Both CN and Adult Swim have a different alternative style humor. While I wouldn't say that they would go for it, it's certainly more plausible.
EDIT: on the bright side, something was brought to my attention via twitter. At Disney California Adventure, Muppet Vision 3D is now advertised on the...
Multi-cams are built around existing, standing sets, utilizing multiple cameras to cover a shot, usually with an audience watching the filming and supplying a laugh track. Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory are multi-cams, How I Met Your Mother is, but lacks the audience. They can sometimes...
Channels have demographics, certain things that must meet their requirements. Comedy Central is an adult-based comedy network. The Daily Show/Colbert is very much adult and mature, both hosts swear and discuss very adult material in addition to high-brow political topics. Colbert even jokes...
Being cheap was half the battle, being a huge hit on DVD was what won those sequels. And while we can be optimistic, there is absolutely nothing that explicitly states that this will be the case for Muppets. It either happens... or it doesn't. My fingers, obviously, are that it does.
As for...
Comedy Central is strictly adult programming. When Futurama was moved to the network, the execs immediately wanted more raunchy material. It wouldn't be a good fit.
Disney still wants Muppets to be a family franchise, and the only true balance would be found on a cable network such as ABC...
Well, I don't want to be audacious about the international box office since we won't know the full story for another three months. Who knows? I'm hoping for the best but so far I'm just unsure.
As for a TV series and how expensive it would be, that largely depends. A single camera would be...
Just FYI: The Smurfs was in 3D, which Muppets was not. If it wasn't, it would have made only a tad more than the Muppets will in its run.
Also, this week's BO was actually good news believe it or not. The hold was pretty decent, though of course next week is the biggest tell. What it does say...
To be fair, it's a classic marketing technique. Since the Muppets is an established brand, they basically tiered it:
1) Establishment (thanks Jim Henson!)
2) Re-introduction (thanks YouTube!)
3) Summer teasers in front of wide release (Check! And clever, too!)
4) Actual trailer in front of wide...
Oh yea hahaha. And then he "ate crow".
Jim's reversal of sorts is hysterical. In the article, it's positive, and then his follow up comment has such a bizarre negative spin, almost as if he's appealing to that idiot "stockholder" that keeps trolling. Although if it's really true that the head...
According to Box Office Mojo, the Muppets have already been released in Mexico and Brazil: http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=themuppets.htm
I was thinking the same exact thing. The film would probably be near 70 million instead of 56 mil if it were in 3D on surcharge alone. And I think Disney realizes that.
The Daily Show included a snippet of the FOX segment in their "moment of zen", and Conan did a bit where they took the "We Built This City" montage and layered in the Soviet Union anthem over it. It was pretty funny, Animal praised "Stalin's" drumset and the segment ended with a parody of the...
Are you guys seriously discussing politics? That's a really bad idea IMO and never leads anywhere good.
Just saying in advance.
Of course this is a inflammatory topic, but all I will say is this: both the left and the right have their loonies. But the fact is that the left does not have an...
I don't want to be that guy but I follow and have gotten to know some insiders who are basically never wrong, and told me about the bait-and-switch. Basically, Tron Legacy did better financially worldwide than in the states, so it makes more sense to put it in Singapore.
As for MV3D... you...
Hate to disagree, but summer would eat this film alive. The only prime place would've been when the Smurfs came out and... well... the Smurfs came out then.
